What is Culture?
• the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices
that characterizes an institution or organization.
What is Society?
• a part of a community that is a unit
distinguishable by particular aims or standards
of living or conduct.
What is Politics?
• A science of government.

Module 1 | Human Variation
A. Nationality and Ethnicity
• Nationality - a group of people who share
the same history, traditions, and language.
• Naturalization - Nationality can be
acquired by being born in a country or
through legal processes.
• Ethnic groups - within a nation are smaller
groups that share specific social
environments, traditions, and histories that
may not be necessarily subscribed to by
the mainstream society.

A. Nationality and Ethnicity
• There are about 180 indigenous ethnic
groups in the Philippines and more than
100 tribal groups.
B. Gender
• refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors,
activities, and attributes that a given society
considers appropriate for men and women
Sex - refers to the biological characteristics
of humans such as male or female, gender
catergories are more varied, accomodating
identities such as LGBTQI
There are several types of gender based on a person’s
sexual orientation
Heterosexual Bisexual
Homosexual Asexual
Gay Polysexual
Lesbian Transexual

C. Socioeconomic Class

or her social class is, the
response can be any of the
following:

D. Political identity
set of attitudes and practices
that an individual adheres to in
relation to the political systems
and actors within his or her
society
E. Religion
• Monotheistic - believing in the
existence of one god.
• Polytheistic - believing in the
existence of multiple god.

F. Exceptionality/Non-exceptionality
• Some Individuals do not conform to behavioral
or cognitive norms.
• The concept of exceptionality leans on the non-
average capacity of an individual.
