Instructions
Documents required during the Interview:
1. Appointment Confirmation letter;
2. Original passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended period of stay for travel to the United States;
3. DS-160 Confirmation page print out. (DS160 application cannot be reused. A new DS160 application needs to be
filled for each time applicant appears for the visa Interview);
4. Photograph: One recent 2 x 2 inches (50 mm X 50 mm) color photograph, without borders, no glasses or hat/cap,
full-face view directly facing the camera taken within last 06 months against a plain white background. This web
page has information about the required photo format.
5. Original DS- 2019, I- 20 or I- 797, or any other supporting document if applicable.
For student (F class) visa applicants, the following additional documents are required during the interview at the Embassy:
1. Educational transcripts; and
Note for F1 applicants: Interview date scheduled should be within 120 days from the Start of Program, and Not earlier.
SEVIS Fees: All prospective F and M students are required to pay the I-901 Student and Exchange Visitor Information
System (SEVIS) Fee, before scheduling the appointment and the Department of State issues you a visa. For details please

Applicants are advised to bring only the required documents. Additional documents (such as letters of invitation,
land titles, property valuations, police reports, audits, and documents from financial institutions) are strongly
discouraged.
Security Instructions:
You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy while carrying any of the following items:
Battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital diaries, digital watches,
pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops, or
portable music players
Large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted
Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders
- you can only carry plastic folders containing application-related papers
Food and liquid items
Sealed envelopes or packages
Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
Weapons or explosive materials of any kind
Valuables (gems, precious metals, etc.) or large amounts of cash
This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.
The embassy has no space to store applicants mobile phone. You must make arrangements to store
all above items before entering.
Please do not show up more than 10 minutes early to your appointment. It is essential that we
not have large groups in our waiting areas, so it is important that everyone arrive according to
the appointed time.
The Embassy is not able to store any bags or belongings. Cell phones and other
electronics are not allowed into the Embassy. You must make arrangements so that you arrive
at the Embassy with only your passport and required interview materials, including your photo.
If you have electronics, bags, and wallets with you, you WILL NOT BE ALLOWED into the
Embassy. The Embassy will not store any personal items on your behalf. If you come with any
additional items, your appointment will be cancelled.
As with all visa interviews, only those applicants qualified for their visa per legal rules and
requirements will be issued their visas. If granted an interview appointment, do not assume
you are qualified for your visa.
Passport Collection Process:
Your appointment letter lists the pick-up location you chose when making the appointment. If your
visa is approved, you will receive an email when the passport is ready to be collected. Please check
your spam and/or junk email folder on a regular basis, for important emails that may have been
mistakenly filtered.
To collect your passport, you must bring
1. An original government-issued photo ID and a photocopy of the ID;
2. A copy of your Appointment letter along with above document is recommended for speedy
collection of passport at the counter.
In case of representative collecting the passport,
1. An original authority letter signed by the applicant, having the full name of person collecting as
on their photo id card; and
2. Applicants passport no., with copy of applicant’s photo ID; and
3. Representative's Govt. issued original photo ID with a copy of same.
4. A copy of Appointment letter along with above documents is recommended for speedy
collection of passport at the counter.
Children below 18 years of age will not be allowed to collect any/self-passport. An original letter of
authority signed by any one parent is mandatory.
