Week 1: Lesson 1 - Basic Shapes: Circle and Square
Objective(s):
a) Able to identify a circle.
b) Able to identify a square.
c) Able to differentiate circle from a square.
d) Able to give examples of objects that are circle or square.
Materials/Resources:
Real objects:
Circles: paper/plastic plates, bangles, key rings, coins, small wall clock or round toy clock
Square: photo frame, tile, bread slice, cracker
Cut out circles and squares
Interactive whiteboard or large paper
To prepare before lesson:
Print out the picture for analysis and color it.

Ask: What do you see in the picture? What is the shape of the
oranges? What is the shape of the ice cubes?
2. Tell the children that the oranges are circles and the ice cubes are
squares.
3. Write the word circle on the board and have the children read.
SQUARE CIRCLE
Main Activity 1. Differentiate the two shapes by asking the following questions: 30 minutes
a. How will you describe a circle? – it has no sides; it goes round and
round
Pass around a circle pattern and have the children touch/feel
and trace the shape.
Narration: Together, let us draw a circle in the air.
b. How will you describe a square? It has four sides; all the four
sides have the same size.
Pass around a square pattern and have the children touch/feel
and trace the shape.
Narration: Together, let us draw a square in the air.
2. Divide the children into two groups: A and B.
Ask the children in group A to list down or draw objects that are
circle that can be found in the classroom.
Ask the children in group B to list down objects that square that
can be found in the classroom.
Give the children 3-5 minutes to do their list.
Narration: I will group you into two. Those who will be in group
A, write names or draw objects that are circle and those in
group B, write names or draw objects that are square.
3. Do Pair and Share
After 5 minutes, stop the activity and pair up the children from
group A to group B.
Have them share their list to their assigned partner.
4. Do Whole Group Sharing
Call back the children’s attention.
Ask for volunteers to give examples of objects that are circle or
square.
Write it under the shape posted on the board.

Closure Review and Discuss – Tell the children “Let’s summarize our lesson that we 5 minutes
learned today.”
Ask the following questions:
a. How will you describe a circle?
b. How will you describe a square?
c. Which shape do you like more?
d. Why do you like it?
Narration: When you go home today, look for objects that are
square or circle. Take photos and show it to us next meeting. I hope
you had fun learning about shapes today. Thank you for
participating very well.

Week 1: Lesson 2 - Colours: Red and Yellow

Red and yellow-colored papers
Red and yellow objects cut outs (toys, fruits, etc.)
Crayons or markers (red and yellow)
Coloring sheets with pictures (apple, sun, etc.)
Flashcards with red and yellow images
Scissors and glue
To prepare before lesson:
Copy the Nursery Rhyme to a Poster paper
Cut out a big circle using red paper
Cut out a big square using yellow paper

Colors shining in the sun - Make a big circle with arms to represent the
sun.
Red like apples, bright and sweet - Pretend to eat an apple.
Yellow like bananas we eat - Pretend to peel and eat a banana.
Red like roses, red like fire - Hold hands like a blooming flower, then
wiggle fingers like flickering flames.
Yellow like the sun up higher - Point upwards to the sky.
Red and yellow, bright and fun - Point to something red and yellow
again.
Colors shining in the sun - Make a big circle with arms to represent the
sun again.
2. After singing, ask “What is the song all about? What colors are
mentioned in the song?
3. Write the word RED and YELLOW on the board.

Cut out yellow square Show a circle that is red, then ask “What shape is this? What is its
color?

Call some children to answer then write their answers inside the

5. Do Sorting Activity:
Gather the children around the table and give each a color sorting
mat.
Place at the center of the table a tray with cut outs of different
objects with different colors (mostly red and yellow)
Ask the children to pick out three objects that are red and three
objects that are yellow from the tray and paste them on their color
sorting mat.

Closure 1. Sharing Activity 5 minutes
Call for volunteers to share their work in front of the class.
Have them name the objects they put under red and objects under
yellow.
2. Ask the children “Which color do you like the most red or yellow? Why?
3. Narration: When you go home today, find yellow and red objects at
home, take a photo or bring one to school for show and tell.

Week 1: Lesson 3 Circle, Square, Red, and Yellow

a) Able to classify objects into circles, squares, red, and yellow.
b) Sort objects according to the given attributes.
Materials/Resources:
Cut -out circles and squares (felt)
Yellow and red objects or cutouts (e.g. banana, apple, coin, square cloth, crackers, biscuits, etc.)

Hide some objects that are circle, square, red, and yellow in the classroom or playground.
Prepare the children groupings: Beginners, On grade level, Above grade level

2. Gather the children around the tray/box so to go over the objects they
were able to gather.
Narration: Let us look at the objects we found and let us sort them
according to the shape and color we learned in the past days.
Cut out circle and square Main Activity 1. Do a whole group sorting activity. 30 minutes
Narration: I will call one child at a time. I want you to pick out one object
from the box/tray. Then, think and decide where you want to place the
object. If the object is yellow but its not either circle or square, put in in
the yellow mat. If the object is a circle but not either yellow or red, you
yellow and red mat have to put it inside the circle.
Demonstrate the activity to the children before calling them one by
one.
2. Do Stations:

Group the children into three: Beginners (Level 1), On Grade Level
(Level 2), Above Grade Level (Level 3)
Level 1 – Coloring Activity: Color all the circles yellow and all the
squares red.
Level 2 – Build a Robot: Create a robot using the yellow and red
circles and squares felt cutouts.
Level 3 – Cut and Paste: Cut and paste the objects under the
correct shape and color.

Ask the children to stand and share what they have learned for this
week about colors and shapes.
