Recently a number of brake binding cases have been reported from various Railways. In this regard,
RDSO has issued exhaustive instructions from time to time for the proper maintenance of brake system to
avoid enroute malfunctioning of brake system being safety critical in running of a train. Copy of the various
related instructions as referred above are enclosed.
Further, it is advised that whenever a brake binding incident takes place, same to be thoroughly
investigated for root cause analysis and also to be reported to RDSO and Railway Board. For this purpose, a
format has been prepared (Annexure-A) for filling information for each brake binding incidences at place where
brake binding has been reported and for coaching depots (primary & secondary) when train arrives at
destination. Based upon the relevant data and examination, final report with root cause analysis on brake
binding incident to be made and sent to RDSO and Railway Board. Also, proper record of the same to be
maintained for taking corrective action and its monitoring.

Note: If rake arrives first at secondary maintenance end then all available information to the extent
possible to be filled/recorded. However, information from S.No.7 to 16 is recommended to be
