Science
Objective: Introduce students to the field of
social science and its significance.

Morning Session:
Welcome Message: Send a welcome message via
the course platform, outlining the course
objectives and expectations.
Lecture Video: Provide a pre-recorded lecture
video introducing the definition and scope of
social science.

Afternoon Session:
Discussion Forum: Initiate an online discussion
forum where students can introduce themselves
and share their expectations for the course.
Icebreaker Activity: Post an icebreaker question
or activity to encourage interaction among
students.

Day 2: Key Disciplines of Social

Science
Objective: Explore major disciplines within
social science and their methodologies.

Morning Session:
Multimedia Presentations: Share multimedia
presentations or infographics introducing key
disciplines within social science (e.g., sociology,
psychology, anthropology).
Quiz: Design a short quiz to assess students'
understanding of the characteristics and
methodologies of each discipline.

Afternoon Session:
Group Activity: Divide students into virtual
breakout groups to discuss the assigned
discipline presentations.
Group Presentation: Assign each group to create
a brief presentation summarizing their discussion
findings.

Day 3: Interdisciplinary Nature of

Social Science
Objective: Examine the interdisciplinary nature
of social science research.

Morning Session:
Lecture Video: Provide a pre-recorded lecture
video on interdisciplinary approaches in social
science research.
Case Study Analysis: Share case studies or
examples of interdisciplinary research projects.

Afternoon Session:
Virtual Panel Discussion: Host a live virtual panel
discussion with guest speakers from different
social science disciplines.
Q&A Session: Allow students to ask questions
and engage with the panelists.

Day 4: Themes and Concepts in

Social Science
Objective: Discuss major themes and concepts
in social science research.

Morning Session:
Multimedia Content: Share multimedia resources
highlighting major themes and concepts in social
science (e.g., culture, identity, power).
Guided Reading: Assign readings or articles
related to the themes and concepts discussed.

Afternoon Session:
Online Activity: Organize a collaborative online
activity, such as a discussion forum or virtual
brainstorming session, where students can
explore and discuss the assigned readings and
themes.

Day 5: Application of Social

Science
Objective: Explore practical applications of
social science in various fields.

Morning Session:
Guest Speaker Webinar: Invite a guest speaker to
conduct a live webinar on the practical
applications of social science (e.g., policy-
making, business, healthcare).
Recording Access: Ensure that the webinar
recording is accessible to students who may not
be able to attend the live session.
Discussion Forum: Initiate a discussion forum
where students can reflect on the guest
speaker's presentation and discuss its
implications for their understanding of social
science and its applications.

Afternoon Session:

Sample Task: Social Science

Scavenger Hunt
Objective: Engage students in an interactive
exploration of social science concepts and
disciplines through a virtual scavenger hunt as
their final output.
Task Description:

1. Preparation:

Create a list of social science-related items,

concepts, or examples for students to find or
identify.
Compile a set of multimedia resources (e.g.,
articles, videos, infographics) related to each
item on the list.
Determine the format for students to submit their
responses (e.g., online form, discussion forum,
email).

2. Instructions:

Introduce the scavenger hunt task to students

during a synchronous online session or through a
pre-recorded video.
Explain the objective of the activity: to explore
various aspects of social science by finding and
identifying specific items or concepts.
Provide clear instructions on how students should
participate in the scavenger hunt and submit
their responses.

3. Scavenger Hunt Items:

Examples of items or concepts to include in the

scavenger hunt:
A news article discussing a social issue or current
event.
A TED Talk or YouTube video related to a social
science topic.
A famous sociological study or experiment (e.g.,
Milgram's obedience study).
A psychological concept or theory (e.g., Freud's
psychoanalytic theory).
An infographic illustrating economic principles or
trends.
A political cartoon or meme depicting a political
concept or event.
A cultural artifact or example of cultural diversity.

4. Scavenger Hunt Execution:

Share the list of scavenger hunt items with

students through the course platform or via
email.
Set a deadline for students to complete the
scavenger hunt (e.g., 48 hours).
Encourage students to use online resources,
databases, and search engines to find the
required items.
Remind students to critically evaluate the
credibility and relevance of the sources they use.

5. Submission and Reflection:

Provide instructions for students to submit their

scavenger hunt findings, including links to the
resources they found.
Encourage students to reflect on each item they
found, discussing its relevance to social science
concepts and disciplines.
Allocate time for students to share their findings
and reflections during a synchronous online
session or through a discussion forum.

6. Assessment:

Evaluate students' submissions based on the

accuracy and relevance of the items they found,
as well as the depth of their reflections.
Provide feedback on students' ability to critically
engage with social science concepts and apply
them to real-world examples.

Additional Considerations:

Encourage collaboration by allowing students to

work in pairs or small groups to complete the
scavenger hunt.
Foster discussion and interaction by facilitating a
debrief session where students can share their
experiences and insights from the activity.
Final Remarks: Provide closing remarks, express
appreciation for students' participation, and
encourage them to continue exploring social
science.
