Section B
Waist Circumference (in Inches)
19. W . H. R. =
Hip Circumference (in Inches)

Weight in Kg
BMI =
Height × Height (mts)

20. The avenues open in health related careers are fitness trainer, aerobics trainer, yoga instructor, weight training expert,
physical training instructor etc.
21. Biomechanics is the study of the movement of living things using the science of mechanics. It is the branch of
kinesiology which deals with the precise information of human movements with scientific method.
22. Sagittal axis: The sagittal axis passes horizontally from posterior to anterior. It is formed by the intersection of the
sagittal and transverse plane. Sagittal axis passes from front to back.
23. The role of a speech therapist is to build the communication of children with special needs by teaching them the use of
words, sounds, gestures etc to express themselves.
24. Interval Training Method: This training method is very useful for the development of endurance. This training method
is based on the principle 'effort and recovery' and effort again.
For example: 250 metres sprint 150 metres walk, 250 metres sprint 150 metres walk. This 150 metres walk or Jog
before the next repetition is called interval between specified workout.
Section C
25. Ectomorphs are long and lean, with little body fat, and little muscle. They have a hard time gaining weight. Fashion
models and basketball players fit this category While most of us love to hate these genetically-blessed individuals, some
male ectomorphs may not be thrilled with their narrow- chested frames, and some female ectomorphs long for more
womanly curves.
Endomorphs, on the other hand, have lots of body fat, and lots of muscle, and gain weight easily. They’re heavier and
rounder individuals.
Mesomorphs are athletic, solid, and strong. They're not overweight and not underweightand they can eat what they want
without worrying too much about it. They both gain and lose weight without too much effort.
26. An axis is a straight line around which an object rotates. Movements at the joints of human muscoskeletal system are
mainly rotational and take place about a line perpendicular to the plane in which they occur. This line is known as axis of
rotation.
There are following types of axes of rotation:
1. Sagittal axis: The sagittal axis passes horizontally from posterior to anterior. It is formed by the intersection of the
sagittal and transverse plane. Sagittal axis passes from front to back.
2. Frontal axis: The frontal axis passes horizontally from left to right. It is formed by the intersection of frontal and
horizontal plane. Frontal axis passes from side to side.
3. Vertical axis: The vertical axis passes vertically from inferior to superior. It passes straight through the top of the
head down between feet. It is formed by the intersection of sagittal and frontal it is also known as longitudinal axis. It
is the longest axis.
27. Strength training: Strength is the ability to overcome resistance or to act against resistance. Strength is the most
important motor ability in the field of sports as it is a direct product of muscle contractions. Strength training has positive
effect on muscles, bones, joints, heart, circulatory system, metabolism and nervous system. In each sport strength
appears in different form. The ability to generate strength is a very important component for success in many sports
particularly in explosive movement. There are various methods of strength training such as isometric, isotonic,
isokinetic, weight training, plyometric exercises, conditioning exercises, etc. A good session of warming-up is necessary
prior to any kind of strength training.
28. The formula for BMI is
Body Weight (kg)
Body Mass Index (BMI) = 2
Height × Height (m)

Thus, in this case, BMI = = 24.4

the formula for WHR is
Waist Hips Ratio (WHR) = (
Waist Circumference
)
Hip Circumference

Thus, in this case, WHR = = 0.95

190

According to the degree of health risk table, for a male having a BMI less than 25 and a WHR between 0.85 and 1.0, the
health risk is low.
29. Plane is an imaginary, flat surface passing through the body organ or plane is the surface on which the movement occurs.
There are following types of planes:
1. Sagittal or Medial plane: The sagittal plane is a vertical plane passing from the rear to the front, dividing the body
into left and right halves. It is also known as anterior posterior plane. Most of the sports and exercise movements that
are two dimensional, such as running, long jumping and somersault take place in this plane.
2. Frontal or Coronal plane: the frontal plane is also vertical and passes from left to right dividing the body into
posterior to anterior halves. It is also known as coronal plane. Frontal plane cuts the body into front and back.
Movements along the frontal plane can include cartwheel and star jumps.
3. Transverse or Horizontal plane: The transverse plane divides the body into top and bottom halves. In fact, it divides
the body into upper and lower sections. This plane lies horizontally that why it is also called horizontal plane.
Movements along this plane can include an ice- skating spin or rotation to play a tennis shot.
30. i. Participation in physical activities.
ii. Achieve high level of physical fitness.
iii. Cognitive strategies to change perception of the stressor.

C) motivate
33. 1. A) Mental strength
2. C) Positive
3. D) Mentally
4. B) Blood
Section E
34. Five lifestyle diseases and the yogic asanas which cure and prevent these diseases are given below:
Lifestyle Disease Yogic Asanas which Cure and Prevent the Disease

Lower back pain Supta Matsyendrasana / Supine Spinal Twist and Marjaryasana / Cat or Cow pose
Diabetes Ardha Matsyendrasana / Half Spinal Twist and Chakrasana / Wheel pose
Stomach disorder Apanasana / Knees to chest pose and Paschimottanasana / Seated Forward Bend Pose

Liver problems Ardha Bhekasana / Half Frog pose and Parighasana / Gate pose
Depression Baddha Konasana / Bound Angle pose and Sukhasana / Easy pose
35. Newton’s laws of motion have multiple application in sports. Each law and its application in sports in discussed below
i. Newton’s First Law: It states that a body at rest will remain at rest and a body in motion will remain in motion at the
same speed and in the same direction till any external force is applied on it to change that state.
This law is also known as ‘Law of inertia’. This law has an application in many games such as soccer, in which when

myCBSEguide
a soccer ball is kicked into the air, gravity will pull it back to the ground. Then, it will continue to roll until the
frictional force of the ground on the ball ultimately slows it down.
ii. Newton’s Second Law: It states that the acceleration produced in an object due to extent force is directly
proportional to the force producing it and inversely proportional to its mass. It means the acceleration depends upon
the force applied and the mass of an object.
This law has an application in many games such as baseball in which, if a batter hits the ball with double the normal
force, the acceleration rate of the ball will be doubled.
iii. Newton’s Third Law: It states that for every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction. It describes what
happens to a body when it exerts a force on another body.
This law has an application in sports such as swimming, in which a swimmer propels himself through the water
because the water offers an equal counter force to oppose the action of the swimmer’s hands and legs, push, thus,
allowing him to move.
36. i. The role of a school counsellor is to help all students, including those with special needs, to achieve there full
potential. Introducing an appropriate individualised education programme (IEP) at early age can make all the
differance, not only in these children's academic learning but in their emotional health and social adjustment and
ultimately in their ability to become productive, contributing member of society.
ii. Counselling sessions with special education students.
iii. Encouraging family involvement in IEP.
iv. Consulling with and working with other school staff to better understand the childs special needs.
v. Collaborating with other school and community professionals like, teachers, school, psychologist, physical therapist
and occupational therapist, etc.
vi. Identifying other students who should be assessed to determine the eligibility for special education.
37. Adolescence, as pointed out earlier, is a period of quick growth and development. It is marked by stresses and strains. On
account of the complex nature of the problems of adolescents, it is called a critical period of life. It is critical not only
from the point of view of adolescents but is also critical for those who are responsible for their education and guidance.
Parents and teachers are therefore required to handle adolescents very carefully. The problems of adolescents can be
managed in the following ways:
i. Sympathetic and liberal attitude of parents: A sympathetic and liberal attitude of parents and their cooperative
nature can help in solving many problems of adolescents, Parents should take note of the change take place during
growth and development of children and adjust their own behaviour towards the adolescents. Liberal and sympathetic
attitude of parents develops self-confidence.
ii. Healthy atmosphere at home and school: Unhealthy atmosphere at home or in school or carelessness towards
children can force children to fall in bad company. In orders to save children from bad habits and company, it is
important to provide sufficient means for the satisfaction of their interests at home or school. Activities like music,
arts or sports can help in keeping the children busy and indulge in healthy recreation.
iii. Free hand to adolescents: Most of the problems of adolescents arise due to inability
of the parents and teachers to give a free hand to adolescents to develop their own values. Generally, home and
school discipline annoys the adolescents. At times, adolescents may be adamant and revolting in their behaviour but
strict attitude of parents does not work with them. Such problems along with the problems of education and selection
of a vocation can cause unhappiness. Adolescents are generally:
a. Assertive;
b. Explorative.
c. Interested in social life.
As a rule, they should be given free hand in their activities but the parents and teachers should set certain moral
standards for them to follow. They should also keep an eye on their activities because the chances of their going
astray also increase during adolescence.

iv. Exposure to wide variety of experiences: Developmental problems of adolescents also include problems of
education and preparation for some occupation. Such problems often become source of worry and tension in
adolescents as well as their parents.
In this respect, they should be exposed to wide. variety of experiences to enable them to develop skills in different
fields. Moreover the adolescents should be allowed to make their own choice of a career. Will and likings of parents
should not be imposed on children in such matters.
v. Channelisation of energies in right directions: Adolescent children also possess extra physical energies. The best
way to mobilise their energies is to motivate them to participate in physical activities. It is a well-known fact that if
the energies of adolescents are not channelised in right directions, then they may indulge in rowdyism, destructive
activities and unsocial behaviour. Proper channelisation of their energies through games and sports can, not only save
them from such acts, but can also help them to get rid of their worries and tensions. Participation in games and sports
can also help them in achieving some excellence in this field. Adolescent stage is perhaps the right age for
participation in competitive sports. By participating in sports, some teenagers have been able to establish new records
in some sports. By participating in sports, it is not only their aggressive behaviour that is sublimated but their pride,
self-respect, love and affection for others, withdrawal tendency and several other psychological problems can be
solved. Therefore, physical education teachers and others in the field should help the adolescents in developing their
all-round personalities through the medium of physical activities.
