Overall, BIFFes served as a platform to celebrate cinema while promoting film appreciation and education .
The 15th BIFFes paid homage to historical figures and milestones by celebrating 90 years of Kannada Cinema with a publication titled 'Kannada Cinema: 90 Successful Years – Pinnacle of Glory in Kannada' . It also marked the naming of the state as Karnataka, giving audiences a nostalgic experience by screening films that took them back to previous iconic cinematic moments . The festival further honored the legacy of M S Sathyu with a Lifetime Achievement Award and celebrated the centenaries of music composer Vijaya Bhaskar and filmmakers like Abbas Kiarostami and Mrinal Sen through panel discussions and retrospectives .
