Plan Labelling - Transcript

Stefan: Good a&ernoon and welcome to the fitness center. My name is Stefan Ridley, you
can find me in the Student's Union office during working hours, We're standing in the table
tennis room at the moment, as you can see. If you would like to play, bats and balls are kept
in this cupboard. Just ask anyone in the SU office. You don't have to be a member to use this
facility — it’s open to all students. We also have a full-size snooker table in this room to your
le&.

Student 1: Is this open in the evenings?

Stefan: Yes, it's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It costs £10 for six months, and if
you pay this to me, I will give you a membership card. A&er that, you can use your card to
get in, any Sme you like. You should join as soon as possible, as we have limited membership
and it’s very popular. We can't allow more than thirty members at one Sme, because it gets
too busy.

Student 1: I'll pay you now.

Stefan: Let me show you round the gym first. That's over here, to your right.

Student 2: Yes, that’s what I want to see. What equipment do you have? Do you have stair
climbers?

Stefan: Yes, we have three. Come in and I'll show you. We'll start with the equipment to the
le& of the door, then clockwise round the room. ‘The stair climbers are all in the cardio
vascular secSon, here near the door. You can walk, jog or run on the treadmill, the nearest to
the door, the other two machines between them are for cycling, one lying down, the other
si\ng up. You can adjust the weight to make yourself work harder. You should use the
cardio-vascular secSon to condiSon the heart, lungs and blood flow. But remember you
shouldn't put too much weight on the machine - you could hurt yourself.

Student 3: I see you have a video machine there, in the corner next to the rowing machine.
Are we allowed to bring our own videos?

Stefan: Yes, you can, There is also a CD player, so you can play your own music while you
work out.

Student 3: Great. How much does it cost to join?

Stefan: It's £40 a year for students. It’s open every day, all day and night, so you're allowed
to come here at any Sme. I'm here during the day if you need any help or advice. Now, let’s
move on to the resistance equipment, which is along the wall to your right. These machines
use weights to build up your muscles. First we have the leg curl bench. You have to lie down
on your back, like this, then use your legs to li& the weights. This will strengthen your thighs
and calf muscles. On the right of that is the cable cross machine, which has adjustable arms
and is mulS-use. You can adjust it to exercise any part of the body. You shouldn't try to use
this on your own, Ask me for help to adjust the machine properly.

Student 2: Is there anything else we're not allowed to use alone?

Stefan: No, but the first Sme you use the gym you should do it during the day while I'm here,
A&er that you can use it by yourself, Right. The next piece of equipment along this wall is the
abdominal curl bench, where you can pracSse sit-ups and exercise the stomach muscles. To
the right of that is the pec deck, which is very popular. Here you squeeze your elbows
together — like this — to build up your chest. And this is the chin-up bar, against the other
wall to your right again. Just take hold of the bar, like this, and raise up your whole body unSl
your chin is level with the bar. Very good for strengthening the upper arms. Right, that’s all
from me, Are there any quesSons?

Student 3: Yes. Can we bring drink and food into the gym?

Stefan: You may bring a bodle of water or non-alcoholic drink in, but you may not bring in
food of any kind.

Student 2: Are there any showers here?

Stefan: Yes, next door there are male and female showers, and there are also lockers for
your valuables. You will have to supply your own lock for the lockers. Any more quesSons?

Student 1: Can I pay to join the snooker club now?

Stefan: Yes, of course. Come into my office. Does anyone else want to join the gym or
snooker club now?

Student 3: Yes, can I use my credit card?
