Semicritical - endoscopes,endotracheal tubes,ambu masks, neb masks,thermometer ,nasal
prongs,laryngoscopes , ryles tubes, urinarycathers etc (enter body cavities / mucous memberanes but
never pierce the body)
High/ intermediate disinfection
Non critical - monitor probs,ECG leads,BP cuffs,stethoscopes,otoscopes etc ( applied over intact skin)
intermediate/ low level disinfection

Remove any jewels in hand, ensure fingernails cut short <5mm

16. How will you choose PPE?
PPE should be chosen based on the risk of exposure
17. Mention any 3 points which should be looked for while using PPE?
a) Choose appropriate PPE
b) Don't touch other objects (case sheets,pen etc) with soiled PPE (eg gloves)
c) Donot share used PPE with one another
d) wash hands before & after use of PPE
e) Discard the used PPE in appropriate colour coded BMW bins.
18. How will you classify linen for sending to laundry?
Sort Before sending to laundry - Dirty and soiled linen
After washing : clean ( received from laundry)and Sterile linen (autoclaved from CSSD)

If meticulouss suturing needed 1000 Lux (an examination lamp will provide the same).
26. What is the temperature, pressure & time needed for autoclaving?
121° C , 15 lb pressure, 30 minutes.
27. How do you disinfect BP Apparatus, thermometer, stethoscope & sensor probes?
BP Apparatus - Cloth cuff -Wash with Detergent. If blood stained dip in 0.5% hypo for 10 min and then
wash with Detergent and water thoroughly.
Thermometer - with 70% alcohol (spirit)
Stethoscope - with 70% alcohol (spirit)
Probes - Spirit after switching of the machine.
28. How will you classify Junk materials?
Surplus - Obsolete - Unserviceble - Scrape – Empty
29. What are the special precautions for disposal of covid waste?
Double BMW bags, label as Covid 19 waste, clean bin with 1% hypo, Sprinkle the bmw bag with 1%
hypochlorite .
30. How do you dispose blood bags?
Autoclave at121°C for 1 hour and discard in yellow bmw bin.
