Grammar Points
Using あげる (ageru) and もらう (morau):
あげる (ageru) is used when you give something to someone else.
Example: 友達に本をあげる (ともだちにほんをあげる, Tomodachi ni hon o ageru) - "I give a book to my
friend."
もらう (morau) is used when you receive something from someone.
Example: 母から手紙をもらう (ははからてがみをもらう, Haha kara tegami o morau) - "I receive a letter
from my mother."
Using くれる (kureru):
くれる (kureru) is used when someone gives something to you or your group.
Example: 友達がプレゼントをくれる (ともだちがぷれぜんとをくれる, Tomodachi ga purezento o kureru) - "My
friend gives me a present."
Combining the verbs:
You can combine these verbs to express the action of giving and receiving in a
single sentence.
Example: 友達に本をあげて、私はお金をもらった (ともだちにほんをあげて、わたしはおかねをもらった, Tomodachi ni hon o agete,
watashi wa okane o moratta) - "I gave a book to my friend and received money."
Common Expressions
何をあげますか? (なにをあげますか?, Nani o agemasu ka?) - "What will you give?"
何をもらいましたか? (なにをもらいましたか?, Nani o moraimashita ka?) - "What did you receive?"
これはあなたにあげます (これはあなたにあげます, Kore wa anata ni agemasu) - "I will give this to you."
