Standard First Aid Training


LEARNING DESIGN

I. Rationale

The Health Emergency Management Bureau (HEMB) of the Department of Health


(DOH) has been conducting health emergency management-related trainings with the
inherent goal of training DOH personnel to become competent health emergency
responders.

As a continuation of their capability building and to further enhance their competence


in responding to emergencies and disasters, the DOH-HEMB will be conducting a
training on Standard First Aid (SFA) on 10-12 July 2019 for selected personnel of the
DOH Central Office and its attached agencies.

II. Objectives

To develop competencies of the first aid responders in providing first aid


interventions such as bandaging, splinting, and transporting victims in times of
emergencies

III. Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:


A. Assess injured individuals who require first aid;
B. Administer the appropriate first aid interventions; and
C. Demonstrate willingness and confidence when providing first aid.

IV. Course content

Module 1: Introduction to First Aid


Module 2: Medical Emergencies
Module 3: Environmental Injuries
Module 4: Trauma Injuries
Module 5: Transferring the Injured

V. Methodologies

1. Lecture-discussion
2. Structured learning exercises
3. Demonstration and return demonstration

VI. Assessment of learning outcomes

At the end of the training course, the participant’s competence in bandaging, splinting
and transporting victims will be assessed in a practical examination. A checklist on

the assessment of skills will be used on this regard. They will also take a 50-item,
multiple choice, case-based written examination.

VIII. Evaluation of LDI Provider

All participants will be required to accomplish and submit the Training Evaluation
Tool to gather the reactions of the participants on activities conducted during the
training.

A Certificate of Completion will be given to all the participants who have fulfilled all
of the requirements of the training program and attended at least 90% of the total
number of training hours. However, a Certificate of Participation will be given to the
participants who failed to meet the number of training hours and other course
requirements.
