Unit 2 – Sport

I. Vocalulary 1:
- Football (N) a game played by two teams of 11 players, using a round ball that players kick up
and down the playing field. Teams try to kick the ball into the other team’s goal: bóng đá
- Judo (N) a sport in which two people fight and try to throw each other to the ground: võ judo

- Gymnastics (N) physical exercises, often using special equipment, that develop and show the
body’s strength and ability to move and bend easily, often done as a sport in competitions: môn
thể dục dụng cụ
- basketball (N) a game played by two teams of five players, using a large ball which players try
to throw into a high net hanging from a ring: môn bóng rổ
- tennis (N) a game in which two or four players use rackits to hit a ball backwards and forwards
across a net on a specially marked court: môn tennis
- badminton (N) a game like tennis played by two or four people, usually indoors. Players hit a
small light kind of ball, originally with feathers around it: môn cầu lông
- athletics (N) sports such as running, jumping and throwing that people compete in: các môn
điền kinh, nhảy cao, nhảy xa
- volleyball (N) a game in which two teams of six players use their hands to hit a large ball
backwards and forwards over a high net while trying not to let the ball touch the ground on their
own side: môn bóng chuyền
- hockey (N) a game played on a field by two teams of 11 players, with curved sticks and a small
hard ball. Teams try to hit the ball into the other team’s goal: môn khúc côn cầu.
- belt (N) a long narrow piece of leather, cloth, etc. that you wear around the middle part of your
body: thắt lưng, dây đeo bảo hiểm
- goalpost (N) one of the two posts that form part of a goal: cột khung thành

- shuttlecock (N) the object that players hit backwards and forwards in the game of badminton:
quả cầu lông

- net (N) the frame covered in net that forms the goal: cái lưới

- shin pads (N) a piece of thick material that is used to protect the lower front part of the leg when
playing sports: miếng đệm bảo vệ đầu gối, khuỷu tay, …
- racquet (N) a piece of sports equipment used for hitting the ball, etc. in the games of
tennis, squash or badminton. It has an oval frame, with strings stretched across and down it.:

water, etc.
II. Grammar 1: The first conditional
- Usage: We use the first conditional to talk about a condition which can happen in the
future or at present.
- Structure form: If clause (Present Simple Tense), Main clause (will + Verb)
E.G. If my mom has free time, she will bake some cookies./
I will go out tonight if it doesn’t rain.
