The RK20726 Water Detection Kit can be used
with virtually all Racor fuel filter/water separator
assemblies. It is manufactured using the highest
quality materials and is 100% electronically tested
before leaving the factory. The water probe is only
a component in the water detection system and
will not work without the electronic detection
module. The detection module analyzes electrical
resistance at the probe and determines if water is
present. If so, a low voltage circuit is completed
and the warning light and buzzer are activated;
then the bowl must be drained (with the engine off)
to remove trapped contaminants and water. The
detection module will reset automatically once the
water is removed.
Important Notes
S This kit is designed for diesel fuel applications ONLY. Do NOT use this kit with gasoline or other volatile
fluids.
S The RK20726 (12 or 24 volt) is for direct current applications.
S Components and hardware are included to complete an installation. Due to the variety of different
applications this kit can be used on, other parts may be necessary and are customer supplied.
S This detection module has a self--diagnosis feature that illuminates the Drain Water LED and sound the
buzzer at each power--up. If no water is present, the light and buzzer will shut off within 2--5 seconds.
S Power draw is 3 milliamps for 12 vdc and 13 milliamps for 24 vdc.
Mounting and Installation Guidelines
Exercise great caution during kit installation to avoid fuel spills, electrical shock, or fire hazards. Close
applicable fuel valves when appropriate. Disconnect the battery ground cable to eliminate possible shock.
Engine must be off and cool to the touch. Your work area should be free of open flames or hot surfaces; obtain
good ventilation for work areas in enclosed spaces.
S Apply a lubricant to the O--ring of the water probe and install it into the water probe port on your fuel filter
assembly (see Sample Bowl Configurations on next page).
S Mount the water detection module in the dashboard (requires a 2 1/16” diameter hole) or within
instrumentation proximity for easy monitoring.
S Do NOT mount the water detection module in any location exposed to excessive water spray, moisture,
heat, vibration, dust, or excessive direct sunlight.
S Attach wires as shown on the Installation Diagram on the next page. Use provided butt connectors, wire
splices, or ring terminals as needed. Number 18 AWG wire will be needed and is customer supplied.
This detection module features a choice for terminal attachment:
1. #8 ring terminals to the brass studs or
2. 1/4” female blade terminals to the male blade terminals.
S Use provided wire ties to route wires neatly away from heat sources or moving surfaces.

Wire Splice Applications
When needed, use wire splicers (included in this kit) to simplify electrical installations while providing a durable
connection.
Wire Stop
Latch
1. Simply butt the tap--wire against the wire stop, 2. Lay the run--wire in the remaining section,
fold top cover half over to meet the base and fold over to meet the base and squeeze to
squeeze with ordinary pliers until the latch locks. latch as before.
Sample Bowl Configurations
The bowl configurations shown below illustrate the location of the water probe on three different types of Racor
assemblies (in order as listed); the Spin--on Series, the Turbine Series and the Marine Turbine Series. If your
Racor assembly is not shown and/or the water probe location not clear; call our Technical Support Department
at 1--800--344--3286, Monday through Friday, 6am to 5pm Pacific Time.
Installation Test
1. Reconnect battery but do not prime fuel system at this time. Turn power on, but NOT engine (turn key
to auxiliary position).
2. The presence of water can be simulated by running a ’jumper’ wire from one metal probe tip to the other.
3. After a 2--5 second delay, the red LED on the detection module will illuminate and the buzzer will sound.
4. If your module fails to operate, check all connections. Verify power is on and module is properly grounded.
Continue to troubleshoot and repeat test until successful.
5. Turn power off and prime fuel system per manufacturer’s instructions.
Service Instructions
When the water detection module’s red light illuminates and the buzzer sounds, the bowl of the Racor filter
should be serviced at your next earliest convenience.
1. Turn engine off.
2. Place an appropriately sized container under the bowl and open the drain valve (or remove drain plug).
Close the drain (or replace the drain plug) as soon as all the water has drained out of the filter assembly
and fuel begins to drain out (if you leave the drain open too long, it may drain the entire fuel filter assembly
and possibly the entire fuel system).
3. Turn the power on (turn the key to the auxiliary position) but DO NOT start the engine. After about 10
seconds the light and buzzer should go off indicating that all the water has been drained from the fuel filter
assembly (the detection module is self--resetting once the water level drops below the probe tips). If the
light and buzzer stay on, repeat step 2 and 3 until they stop.
4. Discard waste fluid in accordance with local or applicable laws.
5. Prime the fuel filter assembly according to the service instructions that came with the filter. Also, prime
the fuel system per the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Start engine and check for leaks. Correct any leaks before using the equipment.
