Adama Station Report:

Overview:
Adama Station, strategically located near the city, specializes in bulk cargo shipments with huge
warehousing space capable of holding up to 4 train sets. Labor availability is abundant, allowing
the station to unload one train set in just one and a half days with a three-shift system. The
loading time this time is 3 day.
Challenges:
Last Mile Logistics: Delays occur due to the unavailability of the and the last-mile transport of
goods unloaded from the train to the destination.
Night Shift Safety: Proper lighting and surveillance equipment are necessary for night shifts to
ensure worker safety.
Locomotive Availability: Limited (one) shunting locomotives at Adama and Modjo stations
cause waiting times for locomotives.
Safety Material: There are concerns regarding the availability and usage of safety materials. (the
slippery behavior of fertilizer)
External Factors: Factors like war and adverse weather conditions affect operations
unpredictably.
Damaged Floor: The station's floor condition poses operational challenges and safety risks.
Recommendations:
Minimize Contract Time: Review and minimize the contract time required for customers to
unload objects, ideally suggested to two days, ensuring efficient operations and adjust demurrage
fee. this can reduce train rotation and the customer not afraid to
Marketing Efforts: Leverage Adama Station's high loading capacity to attract more customers,
especially in bulk export markets.
Improve Last-Mile Logistics: Coordinate with transport providers to address last-mile transport
issues promptly.
Enhance Safety Measures: Invest in safety equipment and training to mitigate risks and ensure
worker safety.
Locomotive Management: Explore options to increase the availability of shunting locomotives or
streamline and scheduling locomotive allocation between Adama and Modjo stations.
Contingency Planning: Develop contingency plans to mitigate the impact of external factors like
war and adverse weather on operations.
Repair Floor: Allocate resources to repair the damaged floor to improve safety and operational
efficiency.
Modjo Station Overview:
Modjo Station operates exclusively for container loading, primarily supporting export activities
and Receiving Mostly Shipping’s Import serving as a crucial component of the Modjo dry port.
While its strategic location offers convenience for Modjo Dry Port operations,
Challenges
encounters communication challenges with Ethiopian customs Autority , ESLSE with EDR
delays in particularly when essential documents for shipments are not provided by clients.
Full container Loading, full container unloading, and empty container loading processes
typically take 5 hours, 2 hours, and 2 hours, respectively.
Improving communication channels and addressing documentation delays are imperative for
Modjo Station to optimize efficiency and meet client expectations effectively.

Indode Station Overview:

Busy Operations:
Indode Station managing both bulk cargo and container loading and unloading operations, with
activity levels surpassing other stations.
The station has warehouse capable of accommodating up to 4 train sets, underlining its pivotal
role in the logistics network.
Infrastructure Challenges:
Challenges related to infrastructure, such as floor drainage issues and ground cracking, hinder
smooth operations, particularly affecting loading and unloading processes with the macine.
Communication problems:
Inadequate communication tools, including poor WiFi connectivity and a lack of walkie-talkies,
impede effective coordination among staff members.
Power Backup Shortage:
The absence of a backup generator exacerbates operational challenges during power outages,
impacting essential tasks like email communication and marshaling sequence management.
Locomotive Delays:
Delays in locomotive availability disrupt operations, by communication gaps with rolling stock
and other relevant departments.
Safety Concerns:
Shortages in safety materials and adverse weather conditions pose risks,
Last-Mile Challenges:
Indode Station faces difficulties in the last mile of bulk cargo delivery, where cargo needs to be
transported from the station to its final destination.
