DSP EXAM SUPPORTIVE TUTE 1
1. Calculate the quantization error for a 4-bit ADC with a reference voltage of 3 volts
when the input signal is 1.25 volts.
2. A system is described by the difference equation:
y(n)=0.8y(n−1)+0.2x(n)
Given that y(−1)=0 and x(n)=u(n), calculate and plot the system's unit step
response for the first four time steps.
3. An analog signal with a maximum amplitude of 20 volts is digitized using a 8-bit
ADC. Calculate:
a. The number of quantization levels.
b. The step size of the quantizer.
c. The quantized value and error when the analog voltage is 11.8 volts.
4. For the sequence g(k) = {2,3,-1,0} for k=0,1,2,3, perform the following tasks:
a. Sketch the sequence g(k) and the reversed sequence g(−k).
b. Sketch the shifted sequences g(k−2) and g(−k+1).
5. Compute the convolution of the two sequences h(k) = {1,−2,4} and x(k) = {2,-1,2}
using the graphical method, table method and the convolution formula directly.
6. Convert the analog signal x(t)=8Sin(1000πt)u(t) to its digital equivalent, assuming
a sampling interval of 100 microseconds. Provide the first five sample values and
plot the signal.
7. Given the following systems, determine if each is time-invariant and provide
justification:
a. y(n) = 0.2x(n−1) + 0.3x(n)
b. y(n) = 0.1x(n2) + 0.4y (n−1)
8. The difference equation of a digital filter is as follow.
y(n)=0.5x(n) − 0.2x(n−1) + 0.3y (n−1)
Is this filter stable and causal. Justify your answer.
