LABELING AND FAIR PAKAGING
- The Consumer Act requires that all consumer
products must be fairly packaged and exhibit the
proper label so as to enable the consumer to
obtain accurate information as to the nature,
quality and quantity of the contents of consumer
products and to facilitate his comparison of the
value of such products.

manu- factured or imported
shall contain the following in
their labels:

a) Correct and registered trade name or brand name;
b) Registered trademark;
c) Registered business name;
d) Address of the manufacturer, importer or repacker
of the consumer product;
e) General make or active ingredients of the product.
f) Net quantity of contents, in terms of weight,
measure or numerical count;
g) If imported, country of manufacture.
h) If the consumer product is manufactured, refilled or
re-packed under license from a principal.
The concerned department may also require
the following:
a) Whether flammable or inflammable;
b) If necessary, directions for use;
c) Warning of toxicity;
d) Wattage, voltage or amperes; or
e) Process of manufacture.
Special
Packaging of
Consumer
Products for Special packaging may be required
the Protection whenever ordinary packaging may
of Children cause serious personal injury or
illness from handling and use of
such products by children.
PRICE TAG REQUIREMENT
It is unlawful to offer any consumer
product to the public with-out an
appropriate price tag, label or marking
publicly displayed to indicate the price of
each article and said products shall not be
sold at a price higher than that stated
therein and without discrimination to all
buyers. Price tags, labels or markings must
be written clearly, indicating the price of
the consumer product per unit in pesos
and centavos.
LIABILITY FOR PRODUCT AND SERVICE
The Act provides that “Any Filipino or foreign
manufacturer, producer, and any importer, shall be
liable for redress, independently “fault, for
damages caused to consumers by defects
resulting from design, manufacture, construction,
assembly and erection, formulas and handling and
making up, presentation or packing of their
products, as well as for the insufficient or
inadequate information on the use and hazards
thereof.”
The service supplier is also liable for redress for
damages caused to consumers by defects relating
to the rendering of the service.
REGULATION OF
REPAIR AND
SERVICE FIRMS Department of Trade and Industry
The Department of Trade and Industry is
responsible for the accreditation of repair and
service firms or establishment and their
technical personnel in order to protect the
interest of the customers availing of their
services.
Such certificate of accreditation may be
suspended, revoked or cancelled by the DTI,
for cause, after due notice and hearing.
