● Broochesa machining process that uses a toothed tool, called a broach, to

remove material. There are two main types of broaching: linear and rotary.
In linear broaching, which is the more common process, the broach is run
linearly against a surface of the workpiece to produce the cut.

● The Pitch space between teeth of a saw Gullet size: The gullet is the
space in front of each tooth, and its size and depth determine how much
wood can be removed during cutting. In general, the fewer teeth a saw
blade has, the faster its feed rate and the larger its gullet size.

● Blade material Saw blades for reciprocating and band saws are made
from carbon steels and high-speed alloy steels. Blades may also have
tungsten carbide–tipped teeth. Some blades are bimetallic

● Blade width:The width of a saw blade is the distance from the tip of the
tooth to the back of the blade

● Blde gadge:blade gage is the thickness behind the set of the blade .
Reciprocating saw blades on large machines can be as thick as .250 in.
Common band saw blades are .025 to .035 in. thick.

● Blade pitchThe pitch of a saw blade is the number of teeth per inch. An
eight-pitch blade has eight teeth per inch. Blades of variable pitch are also
used.

● Tooth forms Tooth form is the shape of the saw tooth. Saw tooth forms are
either standard, skip, or hook . Standard form gives accurate cuts with a
smooth finish. Skip tooth gives additional chip clearance. Hook form
provides faster cutting because of the positive rake angle, especially in soft
materials.
● Set(how teeth are kicked out):The teeth of a saw blade must be offset on
each side to provide clearance for the back of the blade. This offset is
called set . Set is equal on both sides of the blade. The set dimension is
the total distance from the tip of a tooth on one side to the tip of a tooth on
the other side.

● raker:A raker tooth is an unset tooth in a band saw blade or other cutting
tools, which is part of a repeating tooth pattern called raker set, consisting
of left-set, right-set, and raker teeth.

● Single cut:a type of saw with an asymmetrical blade and a D-shaped

handle.

● Double cut: a saw having teeth that cut during both the pushing and pulling
strokes.

● Curved tooth:The curved teeth of a saw are often arranged on an arc, or

circle, that makes cutting faster, easier, and smoother. The curvature of
the teeth also allows the sawyer to apply their arm strength to just one set
of teeth at a time

● Never use saw blades with gloves on

● Never use file without a handle
