What Is It

Body Measurements of Children

Body measurements of children are individualized measurements to make or

design a garment meant for them.
The foundation of a well fitted children’s dress is the accuracy of on taking
body measurements. Thus, the correct and appropriate use of measuring tools also
is considered. Many seamster developed their own techniques in taking body
measurements especially if we are dealing with babies, toddler and some
preschoolers for they need extra care.

I. Guideliness inTaking Children’s Body Measurement

● The person being measured should stand straight, on both feet. If you are
to take body measurements to toddlers or preschoolers, you need to take
their body measurements fast and accurate.
● Children should wear fitted clothes when measuring and avoid wearing
baggy/ bulky clothes. Empty pockets, remove belt and extra clothing
before taking body measurements. This can increase the measurements.
● Choose a good and accurate tape measure. Keep it level (parallel to the
ground) all the time you are taking horizontal and circumferential
measures
● Get another person to take the measurements, taking your own body
measurement is not advisable.
● Follow the correct sequence in taking body measurements.
● Measurement should be taken snugly.

II. Body Measurements for Children’s Wear
