ABSTRACT

This abstract outlines my internship experience with


Organization Mental Health Mission, where I engaged in
various activities aimed at developing key skills.
Throughout the internship, I was involved in tasks such as
online counseling, write-ups, rapport building, case study and
communication. These activities enabled me to enhance my
skills in areas such as counseling, time management, and
interpersonal communication.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse
team, further refining my teamwork and problem-solving
abilities. Overall, this internship provided invaluable practical
experience and contributed significantly to my professional
growth.

INTRODUCTION
Counseling is a professional service aimed at assisting
individuals in resolving personal, social, emotional, or
psychological issues. It encompasses a wide range of techniques
and approaches tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.
Through counseling, individuals can explore their thoughts,
feelings, and behaviors in a safe and supportive environment,
with the guidance of a trained professional known as a
counselor or therapist.

IMPORTANCE OF COUNSELING
Counseling plays a crucial role in mental health and well-being
by providing support, guidance, and strategies for coping with
challenges. It offers a safe space for individuals to explore their
thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, leading to self-awareness and
personal growth. Additionally, counseling can help improve
communication skills, enhance relationships, manage stress, and
address specific issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and
addiction. Overall, counseling promotes emotional resilience
and fosters a healthier, more fulfilling life.

TYPES OF COUNSELING :

There are various types of counseling, each tailored to address
specific issues or populations:

 INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING: One-on-one sessions between


a counselor and a client, focusing on personal issues such
as anxiety, depression, relationships, or career concerns.

 COUPLES COUNSELING: Also known as marriage or


relationship counseling, this type of counseling helps
couples address conflicts, improve communication, and
strengthen their relationship bond.

 FAMILY COUNSELING: Involves working with families to


resolve conflicts, improve communication, and foster
healthier relationships among family members.

 GROUP COUNSELING: Involves a small group of


individuals with similar concerns who come together to
share experiences, offer support, and learn from one
another under the guidance of a counselor.

 CAREER COUNSELING: Assists individuals in exploring


career options, setting career goals, and making informed
decisions about their professional lives.

 SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING: Provides support
and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction
issues, helping them overcome substance abuse and
maintain sobriety.

BENEFITS OF COUNSELING:
The benefits of counseling are multifaceted and can have a
profound impact on individual lives

 EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: Counseling offers individuals


a safe space to express their emotions, receive
validation, and feel understood, reducing feelings of
isolation and loneliness.

 PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS: Through counseling,


individuals learn effective problem-solving strategies and
coping skills to navigate life’s challenges more
effectively.

 IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS: Counseling helps


individuals improve communication, resolve conflicts, and
develop healthier relationships with others.

In conclusion, counseling is a valuable resource for


individuals seeking support and guidance in addressing
personal, emotional, or psychological concerns. By
providing a safe and supportive environment for self-
exploration and growth, counseling empowers individuals
to overcome challenges, improve relationships, and enhance
their overall quality of life.

BACKGROUND
Mental Health Mission India (MHM India) is a registered
non- government and nonprofit organization in India, dedicated
to educate, motivate and aware people nationally and globally
for achieving desired happiness, resilience, peace of mind, and
satisfaction in their lives. It is also registered with the NITI
AAYOG platform DARPAN. The MHM India educates and
aware people by conducting workshops, seminars, conferences,
and outreach programs in schools, institutions, cities, villages,
and organizations. The core purpose of MHM is to aware people
up to such an extent that every person of the nation/globe has a
stigma-free view towards mental health and able to develop an
optimum level of confidence and competence to talk about their
mental health problems with others, as they do with physical
health issues as well as start to seek a
psychologist/counselor/psychotherapist to resolve their issues of
life.
MHM India assures us to provide high-quality professional
psychological services on audio/video calls, messages, emails,
and online/offline interactions. The web platform of MHM India
gives a facility “LOCATE/FIND A THERAPIST”, where any
visitor on the website could find, any mental health professional
in their area by feeding PIN CODE or city name on the website.
This service also provides details about rehabilitation centers,
de-addiction centers, training institutes, etc., so that needful
people could contact and get benefit from it.

MHM India provides screening/assessment services at a very
low cost on our website. The MHM India is looking forward to
providing a platform to other NGOs, academic bodies, and
professional groups to raise the voice of clinical psychologists,
psychologists, and counselors for generating a breathing space
of professional development and practice under the umbrella of
mental health with clear professional guidelines.

WHO WE ARE

Mental Health Mission India is a dedicated team of trained


psychologists, clinical psychologists, counselors,
psychotherapists, etc. with the primary aim to aware people
by conducting workshops, conferences, and outreach
activities in different parts of the country. Schools, work
organizations, hospitals, villages, cities, and organized
societies. We guide children at schools, couples in families,
professionals in offices, old age people, women in society,
and adolescents/teens in colleges by various e-services (call,
mail, WhatsApp, video conferencing) as well as face to face
interactions. The people who do not want to visit a MH
professional due to social stigma, fear of leveling, or other
subjective doubts, will be able to approach efficient
counselors/psychologists free/very small contribution to
MHM India. People can ask for help for resolving their
personal/emotional/psychological issues at hand.

ACTIVITIES PERFORMED

 FACE TO FACE ONLINE CLASSES :


Face-to-face online classes combine the convenience of
remote learning with the engagement of in-person
instruction. Students attend virtual classes in real-time,
interacting with instructors and peers via video conferencing
platforms. This format provides a dynamic learning
environment that fosters active participation and
collaboration while maintaining the flexibility of online
education.

 WRITE UPS :
After every session we used to make a presentation covering
all the topics thought during the classes and submit it through
an email.

 PERFORMED CASE STUDY ON AN ADULT AND A CHILD :


In an adult case the client is seemed to be under
confident , indecisive and fear of taking responsibilities ,
doubtful in his decisions.
In a child case it is seemed that she has an anger issue ,
and is found stubborn.

 LEARNED HOW TO BUILD A RAPPO WITH A CLIENT :
Always show empathy , be nice to person , make him
comfortable , build trust and reliability , show appreciation
for their business to foster strong long lasting rapport.

 DID CASE DISCUSSION AS ONE AS A COUNSELOR AND A


CLIENT :
During the internship we discussion our cases and try to
find out the solution under the expertise . Any one of us
become a counselor and try to come to with questions and
practice our cases on each other under the supervision of
our teacher

SKILLS DEVELOPED

 COUNSELING PROCESS :
Establishing repport , assessment, goal setting ,
intervention, evaluation and termination.

 RAPPORT BUILDING :
Rapport building is the process of establishing a
connection and fostering mutual understanding and trust
between Individuals.

 CASE STUDY :
A case study is an in – depth record of a client which we
have performed on an adult and a child.

 MENTAL STATUS EXAMINATION :


Look for signs such as changes in mood, behaviour, speech
patterns, and physical appearance. Additionally, consider
Factors like their ability to concentrate, memory, and
overall level of functioning.

• INTERVIEW :
In psychology, an interview refers to a systematic method
of gathering information about an individual’s thoughts,
feelings, behaviors, and experiences through verbal
interaction, often conducted by a trained psychologist OR
researcher to assess mental health, personality traits, or
psychological functioning.

• HOW TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS :


Client will tell all the basic routines and in between the
conversation you have to identify the main problem.

• SELECTION OF TOOLS :
Selecting of tests and instruments to be performed on a
client according to their problems.

• HOW TO SELECT A PROBLEM :


Client will tell you number of problems but the counselor
should be smart enough to select the main problem That
triggers the client.

EXPERIENCE
During my counseling internship at a community mental
health mission India center, I provided support To clients
facing diverse challenges. Guided by seasoned
professionals, Dr. Sanjay, I conducted intake Assessments,
facilitated group therapy sessions, and engaged in one-on-
one counseling sessions. The Teachers were so humble and
patient with us and supported us in every circumstances.
Additionally, I Learned how to develop holistic treatment
plans tailored to each client’s needs and maintained case
Records .This internship deepened my empathy,
communication skills, and understanding of mental Health
issues, reaffirming my commitment to pursuing a career in
counseling. Throughout the internship, I honed my skills in
case management, maintaining accurate and Confidential
records of client progress, session notes, and treatment
plans using secure online platforms. Adhering to ethical
guidelines and legal regulations, I ensured the privacy and
confidentiality of client

CONCLUSION
It’s a great opportunity to done this internship from MHM
and develop our Skills and knowledge of being a
psychologist. In conclusion, my internship Experience has
been immensely rewarding and enriching.
Throughout my Time here, I’ve had the opportunity to apply
my skills, learn from experienced Professionals, and
contribute to meaningful projects. I’m grateful for the
Support and guidance I’ve received from my colleagues and
supervisors, Which has played a significant role in my
personal and professional Development. As I move forward,
I will carry the lessons learned and Memories gained with
me, and I look forward to applying them in future
Endeavors. I am confident that the connections made and the
experiences Gained during this internship will serve as a
solid foundation for my career growth.
