National Reading Month Celebration 2024
Narrative Report
In line with the Department of Education’s continuous efforts to promote
reading and literacy among students, Bulod Elementary School celebrated National
Reading Month 2024 with the theme, “Sa PAGBASA may PAG-ASA” The event
aimed to encourage students to embrace reading as a tool for lifelong learning and
national development.
The activity began at 9:00 AM followed by a series of exciting and meaningful
activities designed to instill a love for reading. The School Reading Coordinator,
Katherine S. Magbanua, emphasized the importance of reading and literacy as
pillars of student success and progress. She further reminded the learners to spend
more time reading for this would help them have a better life and understanding of
the things around them.
Excitement filled the room as learners participated in various activities. Some
of the learners showcased their creativity through a Book Character, where learners
are able to portray the characters, they like in the stories or book that they have
read. The program continued with a Storytelling Session. Selected pupils shared a
popular children’s book both in English and in Filipino. After the storytelling, Mary
Grace A. Sanoy, Filipino Coordinator, raised questions in order to measure learner’s
comprehension. Also, selected Grade 6 learners present a Choral Reading. After
that, we conducted a Spelling Bee contest to the selected participants, which could
help them to improve their literacy skills, which can contribute to their reading
comprehension and vocabulary growth.
Overall, National Reading Month 2024 was a great success. It served as a
reminder of the importance of literacy and reading in our lives, and how it can open
doors to new opportunities and experiences. The celebration was successfully
launched through the help of the learners, teachers and parents.
