*POLICIES ON RELATED LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND AFFILIATION
Adamson University – College of Nursing affiliates in private/public hospitals, and other agencies for clinical experiences.
While the students are assigned on affiliation, they must observe rules and regulations agreed upon between the school
and the affiliating hospital or agency. Such rules and regulation will be discussed during the RLE orientation prior to the
actual exposure of the students to the assigned hospital or community.
Clinical rotations are planned by the Dean and the level coordinator/s to cover the required number of weeks in each
rotation as specified in the curriculum.
1. An orientation program will be conducted by the Clinical Coordinator/Clinical Instructor for every new set of
students in every clinical area of assignment (hospital and community) “NO ORIENTATION, NO DUTY.”
2. Inability of a student to go on duty whether with or without justifiable reason or will deprive him/her of the
opportunity to have the RLE. Rescheduling by the level coordinator shall be made for make-up duty.
3. Adamson University – College of Nursing abides by the agreed policies as affiliates.
4. All students are expected to complete the requirements for RLE before clinical evaluation/grades are given. Late
submission of requirements will be considered a deduction in RLE grade Discretionary judgment of the Clinical
Instructor will determine the deduction.
5. For each clinical area of assignment, a specific evaluation tool is utilized. An individual conference between the
Clinical Instructor and the student will be made prior to the finalization of the latter’s clinical performance
evaluation.

6. All students will utilize the “nursing process” in caring for particular client. A Nursing Care Plan (NCP) shall be
required for every patient the student is assigned to. The NCP that the student will submit must follow the
standard format prescribed by Adamson University – College of Nursing.
7. Methods of patient assignment will depend on the level of the students.
8. All Clinical Instructors are expected to supervise, guide and teach the students while on duty.
9. A case presentation and grand case presentation is a requirement at the end of their clinical rotation and during
final examination period.
10. Evaluation of performance in Related Learning Experiences area is done by Clinical Instructors using the
evaluation tool with the participation of the head nurses and staff nurses. Areas to be evaluated are nursing
competence; ability to apply principles to varied situations; communication skills; punctuality and relationships
with patients, hospital personnel, and peers.
11. Any student who has unsatisfactory Related Learning Experience with deficiencies in time requirements must
satisfy all requirements before he/she are assigned to the next clinical area.
*Guidelines/Reminders:
A. Grooming and Uniform
1. Wear proper and prescribed uniform. For special areas, bring scrub suit and scrub shoes. A changing/dressing
room (on-call room) is allocated in the hospital before the duty proper.
2. Proper haircut (2x3) for male students and bun hairstyle with hairnet for female students. For those with bangs,
please use a hairpin. Use a hair mousse to control unruly hair strands. No beard or mustache for males. No hair
dye (such as blonde, brown or colorful hues) on all students. Make sure you have trimmed fingernails.

*Please be advised that regardless of hospital, you need to wear clinical uniform going to and going home from
Hospital.
*Smock Gown should be worn outside the hospital, on top of your clinical uniform.
*Smock gown should be worn from departure time from school and going back to school.
*Going to and from hospital, wear WHITE N94 Mask, while inside the hospital/facility, wear WHITE N95 mask. For
strict compliance.
*Skills Lab Uniform during Retdem, please ask your clinical instructor/course instructor.
*In hospitals, they have changing/dressing room (on-call room). Please refrain from bringing too valuable
gadgets/things, and excessive money for your safety and security. You might be sharing the on-call room with other
medical/nursing students and staff. Clinical preceptor might ask you to leave your bag/s and other things. All you need
to bring when you are in the area are your paraphernalia and basic necessities like cellphone and wallet. I suggest, small
wallet that can fit in your paraphernalia bag or pocket. HOSPITALS WILL NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OF
PERSONAL BELONGINGS.

3. No smock gown, no hospital duty. Complete uniform is a must.
4. Female: Use light make-up. No false eyelashes. Trimmed fingernails. No fingernail polishes. No French tip nails.
5. For all Students: Use a wrist watch with a second-hand ticker. No other jewelries.
B. Shuttle Service
6. Please be at the meeting place (AdU-SV ground) 15 minutes before departure time (5am for 6am-2pm for FEU,
MJH, CCMH; 5am for 6am-2pm hospital duty in Pasay City General Hosp., 12:00nn for 2pm-10pm hospital duty
for FEU Hosp Duty and 12:15pm for 2pm-10pm hospital duty in CCMH and MJH duty; 12:30pm for 2pm-10pm
hospital duty in Pasay City General Hospital). Departure time are subject to change with prior notice. 30
minutes prior to departure time is allotted for attendance, temperature checking, and checking of grooming,
requirements, and paraphernalia. On the exact dedicated departure time, the shuttle bus/service will leave.
No grace period will be given.
7. When riding the shuttle bus, please keep it clean. Do not leave any trash inside the shuttle bus. One (1) trash
equals IR on all passengers who used the bus prior. Please look after your klasmeyt if they have left their
garbage/s inside the bus.
8. Please minimize your voice when talking.
9. Before the departure, group must pray the Adamsonian prayer prior to departure time.
10. Students for hospital duty should be picked up and dropped off by AdU shuttle bus only.
11. In case that student lives nearby the affiliated hospital, she or he may secure a waiver to be signed by their
parents and by the student. A copy of parent’s government ID should be attached and submitted.

C. Attendance
12. Unexcused absences will be least prioritized during case distribution.
13. Excused absences will be considered on the following conditions:
-Demise of an immediate family member
-Medical certificate issued by the University Physician
-Emergency Case either of the student or immediate family members
-Force majeure
*Excused absence shall be made up at the ratio of 1:1 (1 day excused absent = 1 day make up duty); (1 day
unexcused absent = 3 days make-up duty).
*Request for special hours of duty may be submitted in writing to the Clinical Instructor not later than one
week before the student goes on duty. Such request may be granted upon the discretion of the Clinical
Instructor and by the approval of the Dean.
*Necessary leave due to convalescence following illness, death, or illness of a member of the immediate
family should be arranged with the Dean.
*If the faculty member is absent, the student will be divided to join different units where there is a faculty
member on duty ; otherwise, the students will be endorsed to the Nurse Unit Manager or Head Nurse and will
be allowed to perform the following clinical activities such as:
a) Receiving endorsement
b) Taking vital signs
c) Render AM and bedside care
d) Assessing patient
e) Nursing documentation: SOAPIE
f) Preparation and Administration of medicines and charting
g) Endorsing patient to the next shift
D. Other Rules and Regulations
14. Observe STRICT Data Privacy of the patients. No sharing of patient’s data information in the social media
including documentation and actual patient’s picture. Avoid talking about patients’ case in the hallway or in any
open/public hospital premises where other hospital employees, patients and visitors standing or passing by. A
copy of patient’s consent on data gathering will be attached together with RLE Packet.
15. No eating during clinical duty. Ample break time will be given.
16. Bring your own food. Going out of the hospital to buy food or purchasing food thru Grab or by any online food
delivery service while inside the hospital premises is strongly prohibited.
17. Unnecessary actions such as paradoxical laughing and chatting not related to clinical duty is strongly prohibited.
18. Always wear prescribed clinical duty PPEs.
19. Do not use cellphones or any gadgets during duty hours. However, you are allowed to use it during break time
only. Turn your cellphone to silent mode while on duty. If in any case that you are in dire need of answering a
phone call, kindly inform your preceptor. Calculator is allowed.
20. No picture taking while on duty. Picture taking would be allowed with the consent of the preceptor. Please be
mindful of the background as we would like to preserve hospital confidentiality.
21. Joining organization/s outside the campus and non-recognized organization is strongly prohibited. Joining of
such will be subject for sanction/s. Invitation to join such organization should be reported immediately to the
college of nursing office.
22. Intimate relationship with an employee or member of an affiliated hospital is strongly prohibited.

23. There must be a constant communication between the group leader, the school RLE coordinator/faculty-in
charge, and the clinical preceptor, most especially on the documents that needs to be accomplished.
24. Group leaders should be responsible to get blank forms (RLE packet) from the clinical coordinator prior to
duty or once forms are announced available for pick up. Receiving forms will be attached on the RLE packet to
track receipt of the forms.
25. Group leaders should humbly remind clinical preceptors for the checklists of the group.
26. Weekly meeting will be conducted together with the group leaders for any concerns and reminders. Accidents
or concerns should be reported immediately to RLE coordinator/faculty-in-charge.
27. Please inform the your INP instructor (4th yr) or RLE coordinator (3rd and 2nd yr) on performed and
accumulated cases from OR and DR duty at the end of the week.
28. Always observe “respect”. Respect begets respect. Make it a habit to say “thank you”.

handbook.
*Make-Up Duty:
1. Clinical Instructors shall keep the record of attendance of students in clinical areas; the number of times a
student will go on a make-up duty depends on the CI’s record of attendance.
2. A student shall pay a corresponding fee to the cashier office and present the receipt of payment to the Level
Coordinator before actually serving a make-up duty.
3. The level coordinator will assign the clinical areas for make-up duties and arrange their schedule.
4. A make-up duty is never scheduled while regular clinical rotation is ongoing.
5. A make-up duty does not exceed two weeks; otherwise, it will be considered a repeat rotation.
6. The clinical instructors will handle a minimum of six students to a maximum of ten students for a make-up duty
in a given shift.
*Repeat Rotation:
1. RLE orientation is conducted only on the first day of duty per clinical rotation. A student who fails to attend the
RLE orientation of a particular area repeats the rotation. Excused or unexcused absence does not free the
student from repeating a rotation if/she fails to attend the RLE orientation.
2. A student who has been absent for more than three times in a given rotation will repeat the rotation.
3. The student will repeat the rotation if he/she incurs a failing grade in a particular area.
*RLE Failure
Students with failing average grade in RLE shall be automatically dropped from the rolls of Adamson University –
College of Nursing.
*Completion Duty:
1. Completion duty is compliance for PRC requirements of major and minor operation, actual & assisted deliveries
and cord dressed cases.
2. If a student fails to meet the requirements during the regular RLE rotation then the student shall have another
rotation beyond the specified time with a corresponding fee.

*Please be ready with your paraphernalia everyday. Clinical instructors/preceptors will give unannounced checking of
paraphernalia during clinical duty days. Lack of paraphernalia means grade deduction in RLE Clinical grade.

3. Insurance – Philhealth ID, HMO ID and Copy of Insurance for Foreign Students for Level II and III. (Physical ID or
document/s of Philhealth/HMO/Insurance of Foreign Students. For Philhealth insurance under the dependency
or as beneficiary of their parents, kindly present a photocopy of your parent’s Philhealth ID or any Philhealth
documentation attesting that you are a beneficiary.)
*All soft copies of the requirements should be uploaded to the OneDrive Folder. Access link will be provided. Hard
copies should be submitted and enclosed in portfolio per student.

*Additional Hospital Requirements:
1. For those who will be assigned in OR and in DR of Mary Johnston Hospital (MJH), you need to prepare an amount of
Php 425.00 (Four hundred Twenty-five pesos) as a payment for your OR attire every time you are assigned as a scrub
nurse (inclusive of disposable OR gown, pair of sterile gloves and OR shoe cover). You may opt to bring a pair or two pairs
of sterile gloves and shoe cover. But for the disposable OR gown, you need to buy it inside MJH to ensure that you are
using a medical standard type of OR disposable gown that they are using. We will keep you posted if there will be an
update if you can also bring your own disposable OR gown instead of buying inside hospital.
2. For CCMH duty, please bring your own 2 pairs of sterile gloves, OR shoe cover and OR cap.
*Portfolio per Student: (Instructions will be given to group leaders)
1. Per student should submit a portfolio with contents such as: (long brown envelope)
• Student Personal Info Sheet (1/2 index card)
• Vaccine record copies (COVID and Hepa B)
• Consent from Parent/s for RLE duty
• Signed Rules and Regulations
• Waiver for Transportation (if applicable)
• Consent from patient in data gathering
• PRC accomplished forms (at the end of semester together with a copy of index card)
3. Non-submission and non-compliance on requirements on-time will cause a delay on the student’s clinical duty.
4. Student portfolio with complete contents should be submitted on or before April 12, 2023 at 12nn, College of
Nursing office, to be collected and submitted by Group Leaders.
*Grading System:
1. Written Requirements (NCP, Drug Study, FDAR, Optional written reqs): 20%
2. Knowledge (Quiz given by preceptors): 30%
3. Performance (Skills): 40%
4. Attitude/Attendance: 10%
Total: 100%
*PRC Cases:
1. PRC cases form will be given to you within the week. Please keep them and treat it with strict confidentiality.
2. Group leaders should have a track-record on the number of cases of group members.
*Updates on Hospital Duty schedule will be posted every Thursday or Friday.
