Henry Sy Sr. established SM Investments, the Philippines' largest conglomerate, making him the
country's richest man. Through his SM mall empire, Tatang, as he was affectionately known, shaped the
country's retail landscape. The scale of Henry Sy Sr. legacy's is truly extraordinary, with 78 SM malls,
1,729 retail stores, 1,264 BDO branches, and investments in real estate, leisure, and logistics. SM
created jobs and generated wealth for countless people from all walks of life, from suppliers to tenants,
employees to customers. On January 19, 2019, Henry Sy Sr. died peacefully in his sleep. One can learn
about the ideals of success from his inspiring story. Henry Sy encourages us to pursue our dreams, no
matter how improbable they may appear.

On October 14, 1924, Henry Sy was born into a poor family in Jinjiang, Quanzhou, China. Henry H. Sy and
Tan O Sia are his parents. He is a Chinese-Filipino business magnate, philanthropist, and investor. He
works in the real estate, hospitality, banking, mining, education, and health-care industries. He is in
charge of establishing SM Malls, which are anchored by the Shoemart Department Store and
Supermarket. He is the founder of SM Prime Holdings, which serves as the holding company for his vast
business empire. He was named the richest man in the Philippines by Forbes Magazine in 2015, beating
out 11 other billionaires, including John Gokongwei and Lucio Tan.

For me, it's extremely convenient for people who don't have to travel far to get what they need.
Hypermarkets can assist grocery-loving shoppers by providing products that they would not find in a
grocery store. It's similar to a full-service store nearby that you can only reach by walking or riding a
tricycle. Henry Sy has a very intelligent mind to create a market that can meet the needs and desires of
the customers. There are also appliances, a food market, school supplies, Watsons, an ATM bank, stores,
and so on. My mother stated that it benefits her greatly because she does not have to pay a high fare.
