Problem/ The pandemic has posed a great challenge to both teachers and

in order to develop the holistic 21st century skills of SHS learners
through relevant, appropriate and up-to-date content knowledge
and instructional strategies.

education specifically for our Grade 12 STEM-A students in the
core subject area of Statistics and Probability.
The Situation
Statistics and Probability is a core subject in Senior High School.
For the past two years, the learners have taken Statistics and
Probability under the modular distance learning modality. Given
that the topics covered in the said subject are relatively new to the
learners, it is not surprising that achieving mastery and retention
of the most essential learning competencies has been a difficult
endeavor. This has been evident in the results of the Electronic
Learning Assurance for Monitoring and Progress (e-LAMP) of
Regional Outcomes in Distance Learning, wherein Statistics and
Probability was among the least mastered subjects of the learners
who took part in the said assessment.
Table 1 reflects the performance of Grade 12 STEM-A learners
in 40-item pre-test in Statistics and Probability covering the 27
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) for the First
Quarter and 24 MELCs for the Second Quarter.

The class attained a mean score of 13.72, mean percentage
score of 34.29%, and standard deviation of 3.41. The most and
least learned competencies as reflected in the results of the pre-test
are shown in Tables 2 and 3, respectively.

Given the unsatisfactory results of the pre-test, it is safe to
conclude that there is a need for intervention if an improvement in
the performance of the Grade 12 STEM-A learners in Statistics and
Probability is desired.

Enrichments for Students, intends to provide intervention sessions
in Statistics and Probability to Grade 12 STEM-A learners. This is
to prepare them for the upcoming Semestral Test, pursuant to the
Division Memorandum No. 035, s. 2023.
The said sessions seek to reinforce their learnings from their
modular distance learning classes in Statistics and Probability last
school year and to clarify any misconceptions regarding random
variables and the probability distribution of a discrete random
variable, mean and variance of a discrete random variable, normal
random variables and the standard normal table, random sampling
and sampling distributions, the Central Limit Theorem, and t-
distribution.
A total of 40 students from Grade 12 STEM-A will be invited to
participate in the review sessions on February 14 to 16, 2023 to be
facilitated after the students’ regular class hours in a face-to-face
mode of delivery. Due to time constraints, not all competencies will
be covered in the said sessions. The results of the pre-test will be
used as basis to determine the focus of the review sessions.
Objectives: This project aims to:
1. provide intervention sessions to reinforce students’ learnings
from their modular distance learning classes and to clarify any
misconceptions in Statistics and Probability;
2. facilitate an intervention program that will support the school’s
learning recovery and continuity plan by rectifying the learning loss
among students; and
3. promote a setting where students regard the importance of
Mathematics as a tool for real-world problem solving.
Output: At the end of the project, the following are expected:
1. crafted learning materials in the form of teacher-made handouts
and presentations in Statistics and Probability to meet the needs of
Grade 12 learners.
Expected This project will yield to:
Outcome: 1. student engagement and interest in meaningful learning
experiences in Mathematics; and
2. improved performance of Grade 12 STEM-A learners in Statistics
and Probability as reflected in their pretest-posttest results.
