Lesson Plan in Explicit Teaching
Grade Level & Section: Grade VI
Quarter: Second
I. Objective
✓ The learner demonstrates understanding of how the major organs of the human body work
together to form organ systems
✓ The learners should be able to make a chart showing healthful habits that promote proper
functioning of the Musculo-skeletal, integumentary, digestive, circulatory excretory, respiratory and
nervous systems.
✓ Explain how the organs of each organ system work together (S6LT-IIc-d-2)
• Describes the functions of each part of the nervous system.
• Identify the parts of the nervous system.
Value Focus: Keeping the nervous system healthy
II. Instructional Procedures
Materials: Powerpoint Presentation, Laptop, LCD Projector
References: Science Beyond Borders
Curriculum Guide: (S6LT-IIc-d-2)
A. Preliminaries
1. Motivation
• The teacher creates a game called Pass the Pen with the use of jumbled letters:
1. Outer part of the respiratory system
EONS
2. Voice box of the respiratory system
LRYNXA
3. Occupy most of the thoracic cavity
UNLGS
2. Motive Questions
• The teacher then give activity by assessing their quick reaction with the instruction through
touching their brain, heart and touching their seatmate.
3. Developing Concepts/Vocabulary
WHAT PARTS DO YOU KNOW THAT ARE IN THE NERVOUS SYSTEM?
• Brain
• Spinal Cord
• Peripheral Nerves
4. Explicit Teaching
1. Introduction
• What are the two divisions of nervous system you saw in the picture?
The Central Nervous System
is composed of brain and
spinal cord. It controls and
coordinates the activities of
the whole
nervous system. However,
the peripheral nervous
system contains the nerves
outside the brain and spinal
cord. It carries
impulses from the sensory
nerves to the CNS and from
the CNS to the motor nerves.

2. Modelling
• The teacher discusses:
✓ The Central Nervous System its parts and functions
✓ The Peripheral Nerves and how it works
3. Guided Practice
• The teacher gives situation that may show how the body would react because of the action.
✓ Try to touch things from each learner without opening their eyes if they can recognize
the things they touch.
✓ use the sense of smell to identify familiar items
✓ What happens when you touch a hot pan accidentally?
✓ The what Ifs of the nervous system.
Engagement Activity (Whole class)
• The teacher instructs the students to post in the board either the statement is FACT or BLUFF. This
will be posted in Manila Paper individually.
Engagement Activity across learning areas
• The teacher instructs the students to group their selves into three and let them do the following
activities:
✓ Group 1- Label the Neurons and explain the function of neuron
✓ Group 2- label the parts of the brain and its function
✓ Group 3- Give the functions of the 4 lobes of the cerebrum
4. Independent Practice
A. Match the descriptions in Column A with the words in Column B.
Column A Column B
1. Controls movement of muscle
2. Basic unit of the nervous system
3. An automatic response to stimuli
4. Controls basic life functions
5. Pathway of messages from nerves to the brain
6. Carry messages from the sense organ to the brain
