SAMPLE RME QUESTIONS (MOCK) FOR TERM ONE – BASIC NINE

PAPER 2 - ESSAY
This paper consists of two sections A and B. Answer three questions in all, one question from section A and two
questions from section B. All questions carry equal marks.

SECTION A
COMPULSORY
1. While the President of Ghana is fighting galamsey (illegal mining) in the country, Mr. Abu who was a
cocoa farmer had decided to turn his farmland into a galamsey site despite the warnings of the negative
effects of galamsey on the environment.
(a) Identify and explain two major environmental problems Mr. Abu is likely to create. [4 marks]
(b) Explain four other human activities that destroy the environment. [8 marks]
(c) Suggest four ways Ghanaians can protect the environment. [8 marks]

SECTION B
Answer two questions only from this section.

2. The Indigenous Ghanaians believe that Humans live and relate to a religious environment. They therefore
institute taboos that guide humans to become responsible in taking good care of the environment and to
protect it.
(a) State and explain four reasons why Indigenous Ghanaians take care of the environment. [8 marks]
(b) Identify four taboos that seek to protect the environment in our communities. [4 marks]
(c) Give four importance of taboos in protecting the environment? [8 marks]

3. Jacob’s mobile phone rang and the ringtone was the song titled “Asabone”. His younger sister
Josephine, immediately exclaimed, “Haven’t mummy asked us not to sing or listen to such songs?
(a) Identify and describe what type of song Jacob’s ringtone is. [4 marks]
(b) Give four characteristics of such songs as identified above. [8 marks]
(c) Jacob’s mum like singing hymns, praises and worship songs at home. Give four importance why she
sings such songs. [8 marks]

4. Ankomah is a small farming community in the Eastern Region of Ghana. There are people from diverse
religious and cultural backgrounds who tolerate each other and live in harmony in the community.
(a) Explain four characteristics of a tolerant community. [8 marks]
(b) Highlight four importance being tolerant. [8 marks]
(c) Give four possible causes of intolerance among religious groups. [4 marks]

5. Abena, a sixteen year girl was rebuked by her mother after the mother saw her standing with a young man
in an enclosed and dark place in their neighbourhood. Abena was advised to lead a chaste life so that she
will not become a teenage parent and drop out of school.
(a) Explain the term chastity to Abena. [4 marks]
(b) In what four ways can Abena lead a chaste life? [8 marks]
(c) Highlight four benefits Abena would derive from leading a chaste life. [8 marks]
