CL ACTIVITY 1

A. For Elijah's story of land grabbing, you could refer to the Hacienda Luisita case in the
Philippines. Elijah might say, "The land is a gift from God—to be shared and cared for by all, not
taken by the powerful to enrich themselves alone."

B. A modern Amos would be someone like an activist or spokesperson for social justice, who
speaks out against exploitation and abuse in the same spirit as the prophet Amos in his day.

C. Elijah's, Amos', and Hosea's calls each involved direct commissioning by God to prophesy
and speak truth to power. Elijah and Hosea obeyed unconditionally, while Amos replied in a
more raucous and rebellious manner, with his works coming from outside conventional religious
channels.

D. Jeremiah's life demonstrated faith through the undeterred commitment he had to the message
of God amidst opposition, and even more, life's slings and arrows. God assured him of His
presence and protection. At the end of his ministry, Jeremiah was coerced by force into moving
to Egypt against his will and perishing there.
