Roles of a Lawyer
As ADVISOR
The lawyer provides a client with an informed
understanding of the client’s legal rights and obligations
and explains their practical implications.
As EVALUATOR
A lawyer examines a client’s legal affairs and reports
about them to the client or to others.
Lawyer’s Duties
1. ADVISE clients concerning business transaction, claim
liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits or
legal rights and obligations.
2. INTERPRET laws, rulings, regulations for individuals and
businesses.
3. ANALYZE probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of
legal precedents.
4. PRESENT and summarize cased to judges and juries.
Lawyer’s Duties
5. EVALUATE findings and develop strategies and arguments
in preparation and presentation of cases.
6. GATHER evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal
actions.
7. REPRESENT client in court or before government agencies.
8. EXAMINE legal data to determine advisability or defending
or prosecuting lawsuit.
9. ACT as agent, trustee, guardian, or executor for clients.
Lawyer’s Duties
5. PREPARE legal briefs and opinions, and file appeals.
6. PREPARE and draft legal documents such as wills, deeds,
patent, applications, mortgages, leases, and contracts.
