Lab Manual 1: Setting Up Peer-to-Peer Connection on
Windows 11
Objective:
Set up a basic LAN (Local Area Network) using two computers running
Windows 11.
Equipment Needed:
Two computers with Windows 11 installed
Ethernet cables (if connecting computers directly)
Network switch (optional, if connecting multiple devices)
Steps:
1. Check Network Adapter Settings:
On both computers, ensure that the network adapters are enabled and
functioning properly.
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status and check the network
connection status.
2. Configure IP Addresses
Assign static IP addresses to both computers within the same subnet.
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet (or Wi-Fi) > Change adapter
options.
Right-click on the Ethernet adapter and select Properties.

3. Connect the Computers
If connecting directly (peer-to-peer), use an Ethernet cable to connect the
Ethernet ports of both computers.
If using a network switch, connect both computers to the switch using
Ethernet cables.
4. Verify Connectivity
Open the Command Prompt on both computers.
Type ping <IP address of the other computer> and press Enter.
Verify that you receive replies, indicating successful communication between
the computers.
5. Test Data Transfer
Share a folder or file on one computer.
On the other computer, open File Explorer and navigate to the shared folder.
Copy a file from one computer to the shared folder on the other computer to
test data transfer.
6. Additional Configuration (Optional):
Configure firewall settings to allow file and printer sharing between the
computers.
Adjust network sharing settings for better security and access control.
Note: By following these steps, you have successfully set up a peer-to-peer
connection between two computers on a basic LAN. You can expand this setup by
adding more devices or configuring additional network services as needed.
