INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

Group Task Assignment 1

INSTRUCTION:
 Submit your Group Task Assignment written with a pen or other handheld
implement.
 Choose your own group members (5 students per group). Visit the CHS Library
and do your discussions and brainstorming there. Be sure to take a picture of
your names in the “CHS Library Attendance Log book” or “Library Log book.”
 Attached this picture on “Page 2” of your Group Task Assignment.
 Write in a long bond paper and put it inside a white folder. Place together your
assignment using a staple or a metal/paper clip fastener.
 Indicate group members’ name and block designation on the white folder and
cover page of your assignment.
 Place your Individual Task Assignment on top of my table.
 A grade point “taking off” will be due to you for each day of delayed submission.
Therefore, submit your assignment on or before the scheduled deadline.
 Deadline: September 18, 2023; 12 noon.

1. Provide an example for each function of the integumentary system.
2. From deepest to most superficial, name and describe the five strata of the
epidermis. In which stratum are new cells formed by mitosis? Which strata have live
cells, and which strata have dead cells?
3. Describe the structural features resulting from keratinization that make the
epidermis structurally strong and resistant to water loss.
4. Compare the structure and location of thick and thin skin. Is hair in thick or thin
skin?
5. Which cells of the epidermis produce melanin? What happens to the melanin once
it is produced?
6. How do genetic factors, exposure to sunlight, and hormones determine the
amount of melanin in the skin?
7. How do carotene, blood flow, oxygen content, and collagen affect skin color?
8. Name and compare the two layers of the dermis. Which layer is responsible for
