EMG 2306: INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING DESIGN

DESIGN TERM PROJECT
In an effort to help you understand the engineering design process, you will be required to work
on one design term project. The term project will require conceptualization and designing as an
engineering team. A team of 3 or 4 students should creatively come up with a simple project to
solve Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering problem. The design should be appealing. The
term project should be done by actively communicating and collaborating with your team
members. You will use the engineering design process to the point of selecting the best
alternative. You would be required to analyze the best alternative then coming up with CAD or
manual scaled part and assembly drawings which would be attached to a report.
The project should be presented not later than two weeks to the start of end of semester Exam.
No late work regarding the design project will be accepted. It is the student’s responsibility to get
the projects done as early as possible.
The project will be presented in form of a report that will include the following
- An executive summary
- Problem statement
- Brief literature review
- Generation and description of multiple solutions
- Analysis and selection of a solution
- Description and analysis of the solution which includes scaled part and assembly
drawings
- Conclusion
- References
