On the one hand, Italy and Portugal witnessed gradual climbs in CO2 emissions per person over
the period given. In Italy, CO2 emissions per person started at around 4 metric tonnes in 1967,
but this amount reached a high of just about 8 metric tonnes after four decades. Moreover,
Portugal’s emission of CO2 per person experienced a slight increase from approximately 1 to
above 4 metric tonnes between 1967 and 2007.
On the other hand, there was a slight reduction in the United Kingdom’s emission of CO2 per
person from over 10 to roughly 8 metric tonnes between 1967 and 2007. Likewise, Sweden’s
emission of CO2 per person began at around 8 metric tonnes in the first year. This figure, which
reached a high of just over 10 metric tonnes 10 years later, fell slightly in the final years to below
6 metric tonnes in 2007.
