who want to deal with computers.
What is a Computer?
Computer is an advanced electronic device
that takes data as input from the user and
processes these data under the control of
set of instructions (called program) and
gives the result (output) then saves output
for the future use.
Data Information
Computer Functions
Characteristics of Computer
The basic characteristics of computer are :
SPEED
ACCURACY
STORAGE
DILIGENCE
VERSATILITY
SPEED
Computer performs complex calculation at
a very high speed.
Computer takes a few micro/nano second
to execute an operation.
Speed of computers measured in Millions
for Instructions Per Second (MIPS).
High Speed
Computer is a very fast device.
It is capable of performing calculation of very
large amount of data.
The computer has units of speed in microsecond,
nanosecond, and even the picosecond.
Itcan perform millions of calculations in a few
seconds as compared to human who will spend
many months to perform the same task.
ACCURACY
Computer always gives 100% actual
outputs (result), if the user provides
correct input and Instructions .
If any mistakes occurs in any calculation
they are due to manual error but not of
computer.
Accuracy
In addition to being very fast, computers are
very accurate.
The calculations are 100% error free.
Computers perform all jobs with 100% accuracy
provided that the input is correct.
STORAGE
Computer can store a huge
amount of data for the future use
in auxiliary device like pen drive,
hard disk or compact disk.
The storing capacity of
computer is expressed in bytes.
Storage Capability
Memory is a very important characteristic of
computers.
A computer has much more storage capacity
than human beings.
It can store large amount of data.
It can store any type of data such as images,
videos, text, audio, etc.
DILIGENCE
It is a capacity of performing
repeated operation without any
tiredness & any mistakes.
A computer is capable of
performing the required tasks
continuously with the same speed,
accuracy & efficiency without any
error.
Diligence
Unlike human beings, a computer is free from
monotony, tiredness, and lack of concentration.
It can work continuously without any error and
boredom.
It can perform repeated tasks with the same
speed and accuracy.
VERSATILITY
Versatility means ability to perform various
tasks & computer can capable to do so.
Modern Computers can perform different
kind of tasks (doing many tasks at the same
time).
For example you can play music while typing
a document at the same time.
This is also known as multi-tasking.
Versatility
A computer is a very versatile machine.
A computer is very flexible in performing the jobs
to be done.
This machine can be used to solve the problems
related to various fields.
At one instance, it may be solving a complex
scientific problem and the very next moment it
may be playing a card game.

Computer - Types
?
Computer System
Computer has two main parts :
1. Computer Hardware
2. Computer Software
All of the components of a computer
system can be summarized with the
simple equation.
COMPUTER SYSTEM = HARDWARE +SOFTWARE+ USER
Hardware = Internal Devices + External Devices
All physical parts of the computer
(or everything that we can touch) are known as
Hardware.
Software= Programs
Software gives "intelligence" to the computer.
USER = Person, who operates computer.
