II. MATCH THE FOLLOWING.

III. SOLVE THE FOLLOWING USING THE GIVEN CLUES.

Clues down.

1. There are more than 200 bones in your body.

2. The food we do not need comes out of our body as
waste.
3. Air goes down the wind pipe to our lungs.
4. Our lungs are like two bags inside the chest.
5. We bite and chew with our teeth.
6. We smell with our nose.

heart – stethoscope.
V. CIRCLE THE ODD ONES.

VI. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING.

[Link] are internal organs? How they are
different from external organs? Name any
five internal organs.
The internal organs are the organs that are
present inside the human body such as heart,
kidney, brain, lungs and stomach whereas
the external organs are the organs that are
present outside the body such as eyes, nose,
ear and limbs.
2. Name the main parts of the skeletal
system.
The main parts of the skeletal system are,
 Skull
 Backbone
 Ribcage
 Limbs
[Link] do muscles help us move?
Muscles pull at our bones to help our bodies
move.
[Link] long does it take us to digest an
average meal?
It takes us about three to six hours to digest
an average meal.
Answer the following.
[Link] three functions of the bones and
muscles?
The functions of the bones and muscles are as
follows.
a)Bones give shape and support to the body. The
bones help to keep the organs of the body in
position during any movement. They also
protect the delicate internal organs of the
body.
b)The skeleton is joined together in such a way
that the joints allow a person to bend, turn and
move different parts of the body.
c) Muscles pull at the bones so that they can
move. Thus, bones and muscles together produce
movement of body parts such as arms, legs and the
neck.
[Link] the organs of the circulatory system
and describe their function.
The circulatory system consists of the heart, blood
vessels and the blood.
HEART - The heart is located in the chest. The
heart pumps the blood through the blood vessels to
all parts of the body.
BLOOD -The blood carries digested food and
oxygen to all parts of the body. It also collects
waste from all parts of the body.
BLOOD VESSELS - The blood vessels that carry
blood rich in oxygen from the heart to the rest of
the body are called the arteries. The blood vessels
that carry blood with wastes back to the heart are
called the veins.
[Link] the process of respiration.
 The air we breathe in, travels down the
windpipe and reaches the lungs.
 The lungs are like two bags inside the chest.
The air we take in has oxygen.
 In the lungs, oxygen is absorbed from the air.
It goes into our blood and is taken to all parts
of our body.
 During this process, carbon dioxide is given
out as waste. When we breathe out, the waste
air containing carbon dioxide goes out of the
lungs into the windpipe, and then into the air
through the nose. The process of breathing in
oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide is
called respiration.
[Link] the brain. What is its main function.
The brain, located inside the head, is the control
centre of the body. It is a very delicate organ and is
protected by a hard, bony skull.
FUNCTIONS OF BRAIN
 The brain controls all the sense organs.
 Messages travel to and from the brain along
our nerves.
 The brain works non-stop and controls the
working of all the other systems of the body.
 The brain helps us to learn, think and
remember things.
[Link] a labelled diagram of the digestive
system. Describe the function of each part
briefly.

Mouth -The digestion process starts in the

mouth.
Food pipe -The food mixes with the saliva
and the teeth chew it. It gets swallowed and
passes through the food pipe into the stomach.
Stomach - The stomach is a hollow muscular
bag, it churns the food, mixing it with strong
digestive juices to break it into smaller and
smaller particles.
Small Intestine - The food then goes to the
small intestine where it mixes with more
digestive juices and is broken down further.
The digestive food is absorbed into the blood
which takes it to all parts of the body.
Large Intestine - The undigested food passes
through the large intestine. Here the water is
absorbed from the food and waste is removed
from the body through the anus
