“Wind 24 slots, 4 pole, 60 Hz, alternator winding connected in Wye

and Delta”

• Speed (N)= 120(f)/P=120(60)/4= 1800 rpm

• Coil Span= Slots/P= 24/4= 6 slots/pole

• Pole Pitch= Slots/pole= 24/4= 6 slots/pole

• Angular Displacement Between Slots (a)=180°/ (Slots/pole= 180°/ (24/4)

=30°

• Angular Displacement Between Phase Winding= 120°

(Note: If the coil span is equal to the pole, the coil pitch is called Full Pitch.
If the coil span is less than, then its Fractional Pitch or Short Pitch.

Pitch Factor (kp)= Vector or Phasor sum of Induced emf s per coil/ Arithmetic
sum of the Induced emf s Per coil

Or PITCH FACTOR (kp)=sin(9OP)

• (kp)=sin(9OP)=sin(90)(1)=1

• Distribution factor or Breadth Factor or Spread Factor or Winding Factor(kd)

Kd= emf Induced in a Distributed Winding/emf Induced if the Winding would

have been Concentrated

Or to Simplify

Kd=sin(na/2)/n sin(na/n), Where n= slots per pole per phase

• Distribution Factor or Breadth Factor or Spread Factor or Winding

Factor(kd): n=24/4/3=2

Kd= sin (2x30)/2)/2 sin (2x30)/2 =0.5
