Abstract
The aim of this paper is to conduct an in depth study of “Seismic Analysis of
various multi-story buildings using ETABS”, ETABS stands for “Extended
Three Dimensional Analysis of Building Systems” is a software that caters to
multi-story building analysis and design. Modeling tools and templates, code-
based load prescriptions, analysis methods and solution techniques, all
coordinate with the grid-like geometry unique to this class of structure. Even
two dimensional and three dimensional frames can be designed using ETABS
software. It is advantageous for a civil engineers to identify potential problems
before construction begins. ETABS is one of the popular software used by civil
engineers.
Nathan M. Newmark and Emilo Rosenbleuth, eminent Professors of Earthquake
Engineering in USA and Mexico, respectively, batted for the concepts of
earthquake-resistant design in their foreword to their book: “If a civil engineer
is to acquire fruitful experience in a brief span of time, expose him to the
concepts of earthquake engineering, no matter if he is later not to work in
earthquake country.”
