BOARD SUMMARY

WORDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HUMAN INTERNAL BODY SYSTEM


1. Kidney-----------It is a reddish bean shaped brown organ located at both sides of the back bone under
the cage. It act like a filter by ensuring that the right amount of waste and fluids are removed from
the blood and so retain the essential elements needed by the body. It keeps the proper balance of salt
and acid in the body.

2. Heart-----------It is the fifth largest internal organ, it is located within the chest, behind the
chestbone and between the lobes of the lungs. It is a muscular pumping organ which has a cone
shape,it pump blood to every part of the body, this pumping action of the heart is called heartbeat,
the heartbeat can be counted by feeling the pulse at the wrist.

3.Liver------------- It is a reddish brown large organ with two lobes that lies just below the diaphragm
on the right side. It regulates blood sugar, blood protein and detoxifies the blood by removing poison
from it. It regulates the pressure of the blood and produces bile, it stores vitamins and manufactures
vitamins A,B,D. It produces heat for the body,it also forms and break down red blood cells.

4. Lungs --------- It is a pair of reddish elastic organ located on each side of the heart, it is fourth
largest in the internal body system. It inhales oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide out of the red blood
cells.

5. Spleen ----------- It is a lymphatic organ found in the upper left region of the abdomen, it is soft and
purple in colour. It act as a filter for the blood by detecting and removing faulty,old or damaged red
blood cells. It stores blood and also helps to fight infections

UNSTRESSED VOWEL SOUNDS

Out of all the vowels in English, one of them is never stressed, it is the symbol /ə/ vowel It is a short
and weak and actually the most common vowel sound in English, it can easily be missed even when we
spell. It is also known as the schwa sound in English. Whenever it occur in a syllable, that syllable is
never stressed. It is found in spellings with 'er,or,ar,a. It is also in some spellings with ' u and e'.

Examples of spellings where the Unstressed vowel /ə/ is found are:


er -------- faster,water,father.
Or ---------- doctor, factor, rector

a----------- again, allow, accus, library,data,sofa


u------- support halibut, octopus
e------violet, dialect

RELATIVE AND
DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS

Relative Pronoun: Relative Pronouns are those


Pronouns that are used to refer to the noun already
mentioned in the previous clause. They are words
that begins with 'Wh'-------Who( whoever,
whosoever,whose whom), Which (whichever), What
(whatever, whatsoever), and that.

The relative Pronoun has two main functions in a


sentence.
1. It can function as sentence connector (
conjunction) by linking the main clause to the
subordinate clause. Examples

A. The boy who borrowed my pen lost it.

B. The house that Jack built is beautiful.

C.The priest whose church is near my house is here

2. It can also be used to introduce relative


clause/adjective ( noun modifier) . Examples

A. The boy whom/that you saw yesterday is my friend

B. That is the man whose son visited me yesterday.

NOTE: sometimes,a relative pronoun can be omitted


In a sentence, examples

A. The games he watches are boring.

The games that he watches are boring.

DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS: It is that Pronoun that


points at a person, animal, place or thing. That is it
points at the item it refers to. In English Language,
there are four demonstrative pronouns, they are:
this,these,that those.

While this and these are used to refer to objects that


are close, that and those refers to objects that are
far. Also while this ad that are singular, these and
those are plural.
Examples

1. This house is new.

2. That house is new.

3. These girls are brilliant.

4. Those girls are brilliant.

NOTE: Demonstrative pronouns can occupy any


position,but that always occur before the noun they
describe.

Demonstrative pronouns can also be used alone, in


this case, the noun is implied. Example.

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
Argumentative essay involves the act of forming reasons, making inductions, drawing conclusions
and applying them to the issues being discussed. The whole essence is to be able to convince the
reader that your argument has merit, so be accurate, logical and very clear. This essay type
requires you to argue a point and persuade your audience to accept your point of view than the
opposing side. The features of argumentative essay are; the topic, salutation,body,and conclusion.
Approach: Your approach will look like this,
1. Good afternoon the moderator, panel of judges,co-debatersLadies and
gentlemen, viewers at-home.
2. The motion before us this afternoon is science and Technology have done more
harm than good“I stand before you to oppose this motion.
3. Science means the study of the structure of the physical and natural world and
society around us.While technology means application of that scientific
knowledge to the betterment of the world and the society. Note the word
betterment, what fault can we then find against something that works to better
our lifestyle and improve our living standard?At this point you should list areas
of improvement such as health, education,
transportation,communication,agriculture e t c
4. Take these areas one after the other and show how science and technology
have helped to bring improvement in those aspects of life.Remember your
paragraphs and adverbial linkers.
5. The chief proposer has told you that vehicles and planes are inventions which
destroy.Do these inventions not enable fast movements to far places?
Remember What explorers like Murngo park suffered in the old days. They
would have reached their destinations faster and more conveniently if it were
to be today.
In any case, who says there were no dangers in travelling then. were many not
killed by wild animal’s, exhaustion owing to long trekking and so on.( pick one
more point and destroy.)
6. My opposers,probably have forgotten that the handsets they find very useful
now are products of science and technology.

technology enable us to travel better, communicate better….(list the rest).
