Q.21 Solve the Linear Programming Problems minimize z=-3x+4y 2

Subject to x+2y≤8,3x+2y≤12 , x≥0,y≥0

Given 1.x+2y≤8 2. 3x+2y≤12 3. x≥0 4. y≥0

we will follow these steps:

Convert Inequalities to Equations

To find the boundary lines, we convert the inequalities into equations:
1. x+2y=8 2. 3x+2y=12

Find Intercepts
For each equation, we find the x-intercept and y-intercept.

For x+2y=8:
- Setting y=0: x=8 (x-intercept: (8, 0)) - Setting x=0: 2y=8 → y=4 (y-intercept: (0, 4))

For 3x+2y=12:
- Setting y=0: 3x=12 → x=4 (x-intercept: (4, 0))
- Setting x=0: 2y=12 → y=6 (y-intercept: (0, 6))

Plot the Lines

Now, we plot the lines on a graph:
- Line 1: Connect points (8, 0) and (0, 4). -Line 2: Connect points (4, 0) and (0, 6).

Determine Feasible Regio

The feasible region is where all the inequalities overlap. Since x≥0 and y≥0, we only consider
the first quadrant.

Identify Corner Points

XI/Mathematics / Term-1 / PAGE 3of14
JVM QP 2024 - 2025
The corner points of the feasible region can be found by solving the equations:
1. Intersection of x+2y=8 and 3x+2y=12:
- Subtract the first from the second:
(3x+2y)−(x+2y)=12−8⟹2x=4⟹x=2
Substitute x=2 into x+2y=8:
2+2y=8⟹2y=6⟹y=3
So, one corner point is (2,3).

2. Intersection of x+2y=8 with axes gives points (8,0) and (0,4).

3. Intersection of 3x+2y=12 with axes gives points (4,0) and (0,6).

Evaluate the Objective Function at Corner Points

Now we evaluate Z=−3x+4y at each corner point:
1. At (2,3): Z=−3(2)+4(3)=−6+12=6
2. At (8,0): Z=−3(8)+4(0)=−24+0=−24
3. At (4,0): Z=−3(4)+4(0)=−12+0=−12
4. At (0,4): Z=−3(0)+4(4)=0+16=16

Determine Minimum Value

The minimum value of Z occurs at the point (8,0) with Z=−24.

Conclusion
The minimum value of Z=−3x+4y subject to the given constraints is −24 at the point (8,0).

Q.26 Show that the relation R in the set A={1,2,3,4,5} given by R={(a,b): |a-b| is even } is 3
equivalence relation?
A={1,2,3,4,5}
R={(a,b)|a−b∣ is even }
It is clear that for any clement a∈A, we have |a−a|=0 (which is even).
Therefore, R is reflexive.

⇒|a−b| is even, ⇒|−(a−b)|=|b−a| is also even

Let (a,b)∈R.

⇒(b,a)∈R
Therefore, R is symmetric.
Now, let (a,b)∈R and (b,c)∈R.

XI/Mathematics / Term-1 / PAGE 5of14

JVM QP 2024 - 2025
⇒|a−b| is even and |b−c| is even

⇒(a−b) is even and (b−c) is even (assuming that a>b>c)

⇒(a−c)=(a−b)+(b−c) is even [Sum of two even integers is even]
⇒|a−c| is even
⇒(a,c)∈R
Therefore, R is transitive.
Hence, R is an equivalence relation.

Or
Show that the relation S defined on the set N × N by (a,b) S (c,d) ⇒ a+d=b +c is an
equivalence relation?
Given that, R be the relation in N × N defined by (a, b) R (c, d) if a + d = b + c for (a, b), (c, d)
in N × N.
R is Reflexive if (a, b) R (a, b) for (a, b) in N × N
Let (a, b) R (a, b)

⇒ a + b = b + a which is true since addition is commutative on N.

⇒ R is reflexive.
R is Symmetric if (a, b) R (c, d)

⇒ (c, d) R (a, b) for (a, b), (c, d) in N × N

Let (a, b) R (c, d) ⇒ a + d = b + c ⇒ b + c = a + d ⇒ c + b = d + a [since addition is

commutative on N]

⇒ (c, d) R (a, b) ⇒ R is symmetric.

R is Transitive if (a, b) R (c, d) and (c, d) R (e, f)

⇒ (a, b) R (e, f) for (a, b), (c, d),(e, f) in N × N Let (a, b) R (c, d) and (c, d) R (e, f)

⇒ a + d = b + c and c + f = d + e

⇒ (a + d) – (d + e) = (b + c) – (c + f)

⇒ a - e = b - f ⇒ a + f = b + e ⇒ (a, b) R (e, f)

⇒ R is transitive. Hence, R is an equivalence relation.

Q.28 Find the intervals in which the function f(x) =(x-1)( x−2 )2 is increasing or decreasing ? 3

Step 1: Find the derivative of the function

We start by applying the product rule to differentiate f(x):
d
f′(x)= ((x−1)(x−2)2)
dx
Using the product rule,
f′(x)=1⋅(x−2)2+(x−1)⋅2(x−2)
Expanding this:
f′(x)=(x−2)2+2(x−1)(x−2)=(x−2)2+2x2−6x+4
Combining like terms:
f′(x)=3x2−10x+8
To find the critical points, we set the derivative equal to zero:
3x2−10x+8=0
x=12/6=2andx=8/6=4/3

Test intervals around the critical points

We will test the intervals determined by the critical points x=4/3 and x=2:
- Intervals: (−∞,4/3), (4/3,2), (2,∞)

Choose test points:

XI/Mathematics / Term-1 / PAGE 7of14
JVM QP 2024 - 2025
1. For x=0 in (−∞,4/3):
f′(0)=3(0)2−10(0)+8=8>0(increasing)
2. For x=1.5 in (4/3,2):
f′(1.5)=3(1.5)2−10(1.5)+8=3(2.25)−15+8=6.75−15+8=−0.25<0(decreasing)
3. For x=3 in (2,∞):
f′(3)=3(3)2−10(3)+8=27−30+8=5>0(increasing

Conclusion
From the tests, we conclude: f(x) is increasing on the intervals (−∞,4/3) and (2,∞).
f(x) is decreasing on the interval (4/3,2).
