 2. WHAT IS 60:40 PATTERN ? BACKGROUND Timeline of the Pattern :- LLB
(3 years) 60:40 pattern was formed under Choice Based Credit System
(CBCS), prescribed by University of Mumbai vide circulars dated 24th August
2018 & 21st September 2018. Stay Order was passed on the pattern by the
Hon’ble Bombay High Court in Oct-Nov 2018. Final Resolution was passed by
the Board of Studies to implement the pattern on 14th February, 2019 &
approved by the Academic Council on 15th April 2019. The 60:40 CBCS
pattern for LLB (3yrs) came into effect from A.Y. 2019-20. Thus all students
(New/Regular/Old/Ex-Students of 100 pattern) admitted to FYLLB/SYLLB from
A.Y. 2019-20 onwards & thereafter will be governed by this new pattern.
 3. PURPOSE OF THE PATTERN 1. Enhanced learning opportunities 2. Ability
to match learner’s scholastic needs & aspirations 3. Improvement in
educational quality & excellence 4. Flexibility for Working Learners to
complete the program over extended period of time 5. Shift in Focus from
Teacher-centric to Learner-centric 6. More of a time based learning, not
teaching based learning 7. Helpful in self-paced learning, Facilitates learner’s
mobility 8. Respect to the Learner’s Autonomy 9. Making Education more
Broad based 10. Achieve more transparency & compatibility between
students & educational structure
 4. INTRODUCTION OLD 100 Marks Traditional pattern :- Single Exam
passing in each subject per semester i.e. 45 marks out of 100. NEW 60:40
CBCS Pattern :- Dual Passing mandatory in Internal Assessment & External
Exam both for each subject per semester.
 5. BASIC STRUCTURE OF THE 60:40 PATTERN Each Subject in every
Semester is Divided into two constituents – EXTERNAL EXAM [60 marks] +
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT [40 MARKS] = 100 marks per subject per semester
EXTERNAL EXAM [60 marks] – 2 hours Written / Online Exam INTERNAL
ASSESSMENT [40 MARKS] {Subdivided into 4 parameters of 10 marks each}
Class Test = 10 marks Assignment = 10 marks Case Study = 10 marks Active
Participation = 10 marks
 6. INTERNAL EXAMINATION Components Marks Allotted Assignment 10
marks Case Study 10 marks Class Test 10 marks Attendance, Discipline and
Active Participation 10 marks Total 40 marks * Subjected to college Authority
 7. ASSIGNMENT - 10 MARK Each Student have to write assignment as per
given topic. Required Length of answer as guided by faculty/Principal/ per
student’s judgement All other details are published in college notice (Cover
Page, Index, etc) Format of Answer – Introduction, Explanation, Conclusion
ONLINE MODE : • Handwritten only (not typed), on any ruled/blank sheets of
paper. • Submission is Online by sending scanned copy in pdf format via
email. OFFLINE MODE : • Assignment Book is to be purchased from College
Library • Submission – physically in college
 8. CASE STUDY = 10 MARKS
 9. ACTIVE PARTICIPATION = 10 MARKS This parameter is judged on the
following factors :- 1. Interaction in lectures 2. Active participation in Extra-
curricular Activities 3. Overall conduct as a Learner 4. Leadership qualities in
organizing related academic activities # Parameters may vary for online
mode of lectures where there is considerable weightage for attendance. **
College holds complete discretion to give these marks as per University
guidelines. Professors hold the same discretion while evaluation of other
parameters of Internals
 10. CLASS TEST = 10 MARKS ONLINE MODE : • Conducted on Exam Portal
under MCQ pattern • Each test has 10 MCQs for 1 mark each to be attempted
in 20 minutes OFFLINE (Written) MODE : • Conducted in our College as a
Written exam. • Each test has 5 questions, 2 marks each, Answer in 2
sentences - 20 minutes For both Modes, at a time, 4 tests (back to back) of 4
subjects are to be given in one sitting in a time slot of 90 minutes (80 mins
for test + 10 mins extra inbetween tests) All details are published in college
notice
 11. ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS ATTENDANCE As per University rule, 75%
attendance is mandatory to be eligible for appearing for Exams. College holds
discretion in this matter as per University guidelines. However, this rule has
been amended for online mode of lectures, the details of which are unclear.
But as responsible learners, it is considered the duty of the students to attend
lectures in good faith & best capacity as Internals hold weightage of
attendance.
 12. THE 5TH SUBJECT Apart from the 4 major subjects in every semester,
there is a 5 th subject which is equally important. For Odd Semesters 1,3,5
we have Practical Training (PT) – I,II,III respectively For Even Semesters 2,4,6
we have DPC – I,II,III respectively {DPC = Drafting, Pleading & Conveyancing}
ONLINE MODE : • Internals = For PT, email submission of written Project
(20/40 marks) & For DPC, an assignment of Q&A to be submitted. • Externals
= For PT, email submission of an assignment of Q&A; For DPC, written drafts
to be submitted. OFFLINE MODE : • Internals = For PT, submission of written
Project (20 marks) & its Presentation (20 marks) & For DPC, an assignment
Q&A to be submitted. • External = Written Exam is conducted by college for
PT; For DPC, the pattern of exam is separately communicated. For all details
refer college notice carefully.

 14. ONLINE EXTERNAL EXAM MCQ 20 MCQ for 1.5 mark each I.e. 20 × 1.5
= 30 Marks ( 30 Min. Only) DTQ 10 DTQ For 3 mark each I.e. 10 × 3 = 30
Marks ( 60 Min. Only) Either typing or Send email of clear scan copy of written
Answers
 15. PASSING For each subject in every semester, passing is 40 marks out
of 100 For External, passing is 18 marks out of 60 For Internals, passing is 12
marks out of 40 Even if a student passes individually in External & Internals,
Overall passing of 40 marks is mandatory Maximum of 4 marks will be given
as Grace if a student scores 36 marks out of 100 for any subject. (3/2/1 Grace
marks if score is 37/38/39 respectively)
 16. ATKT (confirmation of this data from college is strictly advised) For
any subject, if a student fails in Internals but passes in External exam of that
subject then he/she has to appear only for the Internals of that subject. For
any subject, if a student fails in External exam but passes in Internals of that
subject then he/she has to appear only for the External exam of that subject.
To be eligible for admission to 3 rd year LLB, a student has to pass all the
subjects of 1 st year (Sem-I & Sem-II) Internals & External. Student of Old
Pattern (Ex-Students) to clear ATKT subjects (FYLLB) as per 100 marks
pattern & Clear the SYLLB & TYLLB subjects as per the 60:40 pattern.
 17. SUBJECT GROUPS 1. Non-Legal Subject Group (Language and Social
Sciences etc.) 2. Core Subject Group e.g. Labour Laws, Contract-I , Torts and
Consumer Protection Laws, Legal Language including Legal Writing and
General English etc. 3. Electives Subject Group e.g. Criminology, Taxation,
Bankruptcy, Banking Law and Negotiable Instruments Act, Law of Insurance,
Law relating to Women and Children, Law and Medicine etc. 4. Applied
Component group e.g. for Semester I, III, IV of the 3 yrs Practical Training-I, II,
III for Semester II, IV, VI of the 3 yrs D.P.C.-I, II, III
