Avondale GATE 2024-2025 After-School Program Overview
This is a list of all outside vendor programs that will be offered at GATE for the 2024-2025
school year. Unless otherwise specified, programs are for all GATE students. The dates of the
sessions are listed. There are three main terms, Fall, Winter, and Spring. Some programs have
decided to break the Fall term up into Fall 1 and/or Fall 2. Each program meets for a number of
sessions in each term. Please note GATE does not offer after-school programs on half-days or
early dismissals. If school is closed due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, then
the after-school session is canceled for that day. Please make note of the time the program is
offered and the doors at which you should pick up your student.
Friday, September 6th - Registration Opens for After-School Programs for the
entire school year. Programs for all terms will be available for registration starting September
6th. Each term has its own registration closing date, so please be aware.

Travel to the end of the rainbow and make a sunset! Mix up various planetary atmospheres, one molecule at a time.
Explore what makes weather work at home with your very own Meteorological Station!
Sun and Stars
Children learn about the facts on our sun and examine various stellar life cycles. They construct a three-dimensional
constellation to understand the location of stars in our and other galaxies. Children learn to navigate by the stars and
bring home a Cosmic Disk to encourage their stargazing studies.
Planets and Moons
Children experiment with eclipses and learn how gravity plays a part in our exploration of outer space. The children
experiment with the Gravity Launcher to send steel marble probes across their Solar System playing board.
Space Travel
Learn what it takes to be a true globetrotter! Race a balloon rocket and design your own car engine as you learn
about thrust. See the principles of propulsion at work in a real rocket launch and build your very own Space Copter to
fly to the skies!
Space Technology
Discover technology designed for outer space! Steer a laser beam through a laser maze, find hidden mountains using
the principles of radar technology, and discover everyday objects originally designed for use in space! Take home a
Stereoscopic Viewer and check out some 3D space images!
Living in Space
Experience the life of an astronaut as you suit up for space flight! Use teamwork to complete an important space
mission and build a model space station! Head home with your own Spacewalk Mission to continue your Astronaut-in-

Registration is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Avoid disappointment and register early! Please consult the front of this
form for specific enrollment information.
Mad Science is held onsite at your child's school. Students will be grouped by like grades when possible. Class sizes range from 12 to
22 children.
All supplies and materials are included in the class fee. Each week the kids will receive a take-home item and take-home card that
will enable them to continue the fun and learning at home!!

To avoid any mix-ups, please remind your child to go to Mad Science after school on class days. It’s also a good idea to send the
teacher a note instructing the child where to go. Our instructors are not able to leave the classroom to look for absent children.
Mad Science is not responsible for children before or after the stated class times.
Please pick your child up promptly after Mad Science at the school designated location at dismissal. If you are going to be late,
please plan to have your child picked up by someone else or attend after school care if available.
Late pickup will be charged after a 5-minute grace period at the rate of $1.00 per minute and must be paid to the Mad Science office
prior to the start of the next class for your child to continue.
If a class is cancelled due to inclement weather or an unexpected school closing, we will attempt to schedule a make-up class. We
are unable to offer a refund for classes missed due to unforeseen circumstances.
An alternate topic for a particular class may be substituted without notice if necessary.

Spanish 2-5: Class Description
Our curriculum is divided into learning units carefully designed in a sequence that promotes effective language
learning. Each semester, depending on the number of sessions offers either 3 or 2 learning units. Our learning units
have specific language learning objectives that include comprehensive and communicative skills, core vocabulary,
target structures, TPR routines, stories, and multicultural connections.
Our units are designed to teach communication through interaction in the target language, such as role-play, games,
rhymes, songs, language exchanges, and skits. Each vocabulary word taught in our program is presented to
students in different contexts. Students will receive a packet about the units covered and online resources to
practice their learning at home at the beginning of each semester.
