Marco Teórico:
Simulink is a block diagram environment for multi-domain simulation and model-based design. It
supports system-level design, simulation, automatic code generation, and continuous testing and
verification of embedded systems. Simulink provides a graphical editor, customizable block
libraries, and solvers for modeling and simulating dynamic systems. It integrates with MATLAB,
allowing you to incorporate MATLAB algorithms into models and export simulation results to
MATLAB for further analysis.
Simulink Key Features
Graphical block environment: Simulink allows you to create models by interconnecting blocks that
represent mathematical and logical operations and physical components, facilitating the intuitive
design and simulation of complex systems.
Real-time simulation: Offers simulation in continuous time, discrete time, or a combination of both.
This is useful for testing and tuning models under various conditions before implementing physical
solutions.
Block Libraries: Simulink provides block libraries covering a variety of areas, including signal
processing, control systems, power systems, and neural networks. Custom blocks can also be
created.
Model-Based Design (MBD): This methodology allows the systematic design and simulation of
control systems. It is widely used in industry to develop embedded systems in automotive and
aerospace engineering.
Testing and code generation: Provides automatic code generation tools in C/C++ and HDL,
allowing models to be directly transferred to physical implementations in embedded and industrial
control systems.
Common uses of Simulink
Control system simulation: Allows you to design and test control systems such as PID, adaptive
controllers and advanced control algorithms.
Signal Processing and Communications: Useful for designing and simulating filters, modulators,
and other signal processing systems.
Physical systems modeling: Includes tools such as Simscape, which help model electrical,
mechanical, hydraulic and thermal systems.
Development of algorithms and embedded systems: With automatic code generation, it is possible
to implement and test algorithms in hardware directly from Simulink models.
Integration with MATLAB: Simulink is tightly integrated with MATLAB, which allows you to run
models created in Simulink from within MATLAB and analyze simulation results using MATLAB
functions. This integration also allows you to script and automate simulations, perform more
advanced numerical analysis, and generate custom graphics.
Predefined Block Libraries: Simulink includes a wide range of libraries containing blocks for
different types of applications such as control systems, signal processing, communications,
electrical systems, mechanical systems, hydraulics, robotics, and more. These libraries allow users
can quickly access the components needed to model their systems without having to define them
from scratch.
Multidomain: Simulink allows you to model systems that combine multiple physical domains such
as mechanical, electrical, thermal, hydraulic and control, through specialized libraries

Conclusión:
The simulation of Communication Systems has in Simulink a tool that, in addition to facilitating the
work, provides great versatility and power. In addition, since Simulink is integrated within the
MATLAB package, it allows you to take advantage of the resources of a widely used program.
However, and although Simulink is based on MATLAB, the way of operating of one and the other is
not the same: Simulink allows you to build a system and study its behavior in a global way, while in
MATLAB we would be forced to execute functions that generally reflect the behavior of each of the
component subsystems. The fact that Simulink incorporates a series of libraries with elements
already made is an advantage, not only because of the convenience that it supposes, but because
it provides a great test bench, by giving you the possibility of taking that already implemented
system and varying it as you wish. On the other hand, by providing a large number of blocks
already made, the effort of designing a Communication System is focused on aspects related only
to these, and not on building general-use blocks, such as oscilloscopes, adders, sinusoids, etc.
