Dear Mr.

Boston,
I was very excited when I saw the advertisement in the magazine. The Global
Music Shop requires summer stuff? I’ve been waiting for this my whole life.
My heart was filled with joy and I decided to apply immediately.
Music plays an essential role in our everyday life. We listen to music every
day and we even sometimes do not realize it. It is one of the best ways to
relax after a stressful day and it often helps people cheer up. I think that
music is the unique language, which is understood by everyone all over the
planet. It is a great way of communication and people all over the world
listen to the music of other nations and understand what an author wanted
to tell by it. That’s why I love music and I find it a very interesting subject .
If it’s about experience, I have worked in an International Bookshop
for the last 2 summers and I got the chance to work with amazing people
that have taught me a lot of useful things. Being the youngest one at that
time, I have received a lot of tips that helped me improve my skills as an
employee. I’m always friendly with the customers, careful when I give them
the change when they buy somethng, I make sure they are comfortable
shopping at our store and that I always give them a huge smile. I’m so
grateful for the friends I made there but music is the thing I am most
passionate about so that’s why I am writing to apply for this amazing job.
I have been improving my English by taking extra classes for the
last year and I won the first place at a competition my school organized 3
months ago called “TALK ENGLISH TO ME” where we had to show our English
skills (speaking, writing, reading and grammar). I was very scared during the
contest but I was able to prove that I’m the best and my teachers
congratulated me. I have never had a problem when talking to a customer
and I don’t think I will from now on.
Those being said, I am sure that I would make a great employee and I really
hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Ellen Jonson

STORY
Tina was very excited when she heard she had won the prize but she
couldn’t stop thinking about poor Tom that worked way harder than she did,
so she stood up and the least expected thing a competition winner would do
but before we talk about that you should know what made her take that
unexpected decision.
Our story begins a month before the actual contest when the teacher
told the kids about this amazing project the school had planned. From Tina’s
class the only one interested in the competition and the idea of taking part in
such an amazing activity was Tom, a tall teenager with green eyes and
amazing brown curly hair. He was one of the smartest in the class and
everybody knew that, that’s why Tina had had a crush on him since forever.
The contest was about zoo animals and their life and that’s why Tom was
excited. His father works at the local zoo in our city so growing up our boy
always used to go there. On the other hand, Tina wasn’t the biggest fan of
animals, being allergic to cats she never really liked having pets around her
but because “the love of her life” entered the contest there was no way she
could miss it so she signed up.
They had the whole month to prepare a speech that included the
reasons they were animal lovers. Tom spent his entire free time in the zoo
that month and visited every single animal living there to make himself feel
more and more inspired to write about the things he loved the most:
animals, the most perfect living creatures. Unfortunately for Tom, English
wasn’t his strongest skill and he wasn’t very good at writing down how he
actually felt. Tina, even though she didn’t like animals that much she was the
best in her class at English and that was what she counted on. She did her
speech 2 days before the contest and she focused on the language she used
and the expressions she put into the speech. She liked the idea of gaining
experience but the main reason she was there was Tom, of course, and he
really worked hard to do a great speech.
The teachers that had to take the decision declared Tina the winner
because Tom had so many grammatical mistakes and when the girl heard
the decision she had to do that something I was telling you about in the
start. She stood up in front of all the people that were in the room and
explained to them why Tom had to win too, so she took the trophy and
raised it up with one hand and Tom with the other.
