In this course, you’ll learn how to knit and crochet from scratch. By the
end, you'll be able to create cozy scarves, cute granny squares, and
more. Let's get started!
14-Day Knitting & Crocheting for Beginners Module
This 14-day module will guide beginners through the basics of knitting and
crocheting. Each day will focus on a specific skill-building and creating simple
projects by the end of two weeks.
Approximate time per training session is 2 hours.
Week 1: Foundations and Basic Techniques
Day 1: Introduction to Knitting and Crocheting (2 hours)
- Learn about different types of yarn, needles, and hooks.
- Understand the differences between knitting and crocheting.
- Practice holding yarn and needles/hooks.
- Homework: Choose a basic yarn and the right-sized needles or hook. (take 1-2
hours)
Day 2: Basic Knitting Stitches – Knit Stitch (2 hours)
- Learn how to cast on stitches in knitting.
- Practice the basic knit stitch.
- Create a small swatch using the knit stitch.
- Homework: Practice knitting rows using the knit stitch.
(take 1-2 hours)
Day 3: Basic Knitting Stitches – Purl Stitch (2 hours)
- Learn the purl stitch and how it differs from the knit stitch.
- Practice alternating knit and purl rows (stockinette stitch).
- Homework: Make a swatch using both knit and purl stitches. (take 1-2 hours)
Day 4: Basic Crochet Stitches – Chain Stitch and Single Crochet (2 hours)
- Learn how to make a slip knot and start a foundation chain.
- Practice the single crochet stitch.
- Homework: Create a small swatch using single crochet. (take 2-3 hours)
Day 5: Basic Crochet Stitches – Double Crochet (2 hours)
- Learn the double crochet stitch.
- Practice combining chain and double crochet stitches.
- Homework: Make a swatch alternating between single and double crochet.

Day 6: Understanding Patterns and Abbreviations (2 hours)
- Learn common knitting and crochet abbreviations and terms.
- Practice reading simple patterns for both knitting and crochet.
- Homework: Choose a simple project pattern for Week 2 (e.g., a scarf or
dishcloth). (take 30 minutes)
Day 7: Rest Day / Troubleshooting (2 hours)
- Review the stitches learned so far.
- Address common issues like dropped stitches, tension problems, and fixing
mistakes.
- Homework: Practice any stitches that feel challenging. (take 2-3 hours)
Week 2: Creating Simple Projects
Day 8: Knitting Project – Starting a Simple Scarf (2 hours)
- Cast on stitches for a beginner-friendly scarf.
- Use the knit stitch or garter stitch throughout.
- Homework: Knit a few rows every day. (take 2-3 hours)
Day 9: Crocheting Project – Starting a Simple Dishcloth (2 hours)
- Begin a dishcloth using single crochet or double crochet.
- Focus on creating even edges and consistent stitch tension.
- Homework: Continue working on the dishcloth. (take 2-3 hours)
Day 10: Learning to Increase and Decrease Stitches (Knitting) (2-3 hours)
- Practice increasing (yarn over, knit front and back) and decreasing (knit two
together).
- Try incorporating these techniques into your scarf project.
- Homework: Experiment with shaping your scarf. (take 2-3 hours)
Day 11: Learning to Increase and Decrease Stitches (Crochet) (2-3 hours)
- Learn how to increase and decrease stitches in crochet.
- Practice shaping a swatch to understand how it affects the project.
- Homework: Try adding shaping to the dishcloth or start a new small project.

Day 12: Joining Yarn and Finishing Techniques (2 hours)
- Learn how to join a new yarn in both knitting and crochet.
- Practice binding off (knitting) and fastening off (crochet).
- Homework: Complete your scarf and dishcloth, practice finishing techniques.

Day 13: Adding Embellishments (2-3 hours)
- Learn simple embellishments like fringe, tassels, or borders.
- Try adding a border to your dishcloth or fringe to your scarf.
- Homework: Decorate your projects with any desired embellishments. (take 2-3
hours)
Day 14: Final Review and Showcase (1-2 hours)
- Review all techniques learned over the past two weeks.
- Finish any incomplete projects.
- Share your completed projects with a friend or online community.
This structure introduces new concepts gradually, allowing beginners to build
confidence and proficiency while completing small projects.
