Electronics: PH-CT403
Tutorial-2 (September, 2024)
Note: You are advised to look at the two ebooks that were shared on google classroom
to understand the symbols (if you are in doubt). Questions 1-3 are more for your reading
and the other questions will be looked at in the tutorial.
Question-1: Think about the working of the following transistor based on your
understanding of working of diodes and evaluate the parameters that are relevant for
switching on and o (common base configure).
Question-2: Think about the working of the following transistor based on your
understanding of depletion barrier at a P-N junction and the control of width of the barrier
using Gate-to-source voltage VGS and evaluate the parameters that are relevant for
switching on and o .
Question-3: Think about the working of the following transistors based on your
understanding of depletion barrier at a P-N junction, e ect of electric fields (voltages) on
the electrons and holes and the control of width of the depletion barrier using Gate-to-
source voltage VGS and evaluate the parameters that are relevant for switching on and o .
Images with detailed structures are attached to guide you thinking and analysis. Based
on the discussions we had in the last class; you are expected to work out the operation
of these devices.
Question-4: Analyse the following circuit and identify the logic-gate it represents.
Calculate the output and it’s form for the given input sequence.
Question-5: Evaluate the functioning of the following circuit by evaluating a detailed
truth table that contains information on the ‘STATE’ of each transistor and hence identify
the logic gate it represents.
Question-6: Evaluate the functioning of the following circuit by evaluating a detailed
truth table that contains information on the ‘STATE’ of each transistor and hence identify
the logic gate it represents.
Question-7: Evaluate the functioning of the following circuit by evaluating a detailed
truth table that contains information on the ‘STATE’ of each transistor and hence identify
the logic gate it represents.
Question-8: Evaluate the functioning of the following circuit given in (A) for di erent logic
levels of VIN. VIN = -1.7 V represents logic ‘0’ and VIN = -0.8 V represents logic ‘1’. Calculate
(estimate) the values of VC1 and VC2 for each of these inputs. Based on this understanding,
evaluate the logic levels of outputs ( VOUT 1 and VOUT 2) of the circuit in (B) for the same input
logics.
