BOOLEAN SEARCH TECHNIQUE
Search engines use Boolean operators like AND, OR, and NOT to refine search queries. These operators
help users to narrow down or broaden search results.
Boolean operators
And-narrows a search by telling the database that ALL keywords used must be
found in an article in order for it to appear in your results list. Search for two or more
concepts that interest you by combining descriptive keywords with AND.

OR- broadens a search by telling the database that any of the words it connects are acceptable

Not- Narrows your search by telling the database to eliminate all terms that follow
it from your search results

EVALUATING WEBSITES
When evaluiating a website they are 5 things that you must consider
Authority- can you clearly identify the author or source of the information, is the
organization or institution a crediable source and is sponsorship evident.
Accuracy- is the information reliable and error free, is the author qualified to write about
the topic?
Currency- is it clear the content is up to date, does the site display a most recent
revision? Are the links still working
Content- is the level of detail suitable for your needs, is the content well presented and
professional? Is it comprehensive
Objectively- what is the purpose of the site? Is it to persuade, promote, inform or sell?

ADVANCE SEARCH TECHNIQUE
In Advanced Search, you can choose words or phrases to include or
remove from your results. You can choose: “All these words”: Results use
all the words you enter. “This exact word or phrase”: Results include one
exact word or phrase you enter.
HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH
1. On your computer, go to Advanced Search: [Link]/advanced search.
2. Under “Find pages with,” choose the query field/s to:
3. Enter the words that you want to include or remove from your results.
4. Under "Then narrow your results by," choose the filters you want to use.
5. Click Advanced Search.
