HALLOWEEN
People celebrate Halloween on the night of 31st October. Do you want to learn more
about some of the typical activities on Halloween night? Let’s see…

Trick or treating

A typical thing for children to do at Halloween is to go from house to house playing

“trick or treat”. They dress up as scary monsters, witches with a hat and a broomstick,
or ghosts and knock on their neighbour’s door. The person who opens the door can
give a treat – some sweets or chocolate. If not, the children play a trick on them, for
example, they draw a funny picture on the door, they throw flour at the window or they
ring the doorbell and hide.

Of course, most people give the children treats which they put in a big bag and share
at the end of the night.

The Jack - o’- lantern

The other traditional thing is to make a Jack - o’- lantern, a pumpkin lantern with eyes,
a nose and teeth. These Jack-o’-lanterns are put in windows or used as decorations on
Halloween night.

And you? What do you do on Halloween night?
