Year 4 Term 1- Fiction Practice 2
Extract from The Magical Necklace
Part 1

In a cozy little town, there lived a girl named Mia. Mia was a kind and curious girl who loved
to explore the world around her. One sunny day, while playing in her backyard, she stumbled
upon a mysterious, sparkling necklace hidden in the grass.
Mia exclaimed, "Wow, what a beautiful necklace! I wonder who it belongs to."
Attracted by its beauty, Mia picked up the necklace and put it around her neck. Suddenly, a 5
magical glitter filled the air, and Mia found herself turning into a fluffy, adorable cat and the
necklace disappeared! She was surprised. She blinked her new cat eyes in surprise and tried
to speak, but instead, she heard a soft "meow" escape her mouth. Mia meowed, "Meow?
Meow! Oh no, I'm a cat!"

Part 2
Now a cat, Mia explored her world from a whole new perspective. She could climb trees, 10
chase butterflies and pounce on leaves. Mia discovered the joy of being nimble and having
whiskers to sense her surroundings.
Mia purred and said, "Purr, purr! Look at me, I can climb so high!"
However, Mia soon realised that being a cat had its challenges too. She couldn't
communicate with her family and friends anymore, and she felt a little lonely. She missed her 15
human voice and wished to be herself again.
Mia meowed sadly, "Meow... I miss talking to my family. I wish I could be myself again."
One moonlit night, as Mia sat on the windowsill looking at the stars, she noticed the
necklace she had found shining in the moonlight. It was as if it was calling out to her. Mia
had an idea - maybe the necklace held the power to change her back into a girl! 20
Mia excitedly said, "Look! The necklace is shining! Maybe it can help me become a girl
again!"

With a leap and a paw, Mia reached for the necklace and accidentally knocked it onto the
floor. As it hit the ground, a magical glow surrounded Mia, and she turned back into her
human self! Mia couldn't believe her eyes; she was a girl again! 25
Mia said happily, "Oh, I'm back! I'm human again!"
Part 3

Overjoyed, Mia hugged her family, who were surprised to see her back. She told them all
about her adventure as a cat, and they listened with amazement. Mia learned that
sometimes, trying something new and different can be exciting, but being true to oneself is
just as important. 30

Mia's mum said, "Mia, we missed you so much! You've had quite an extraordinary
adventure!"
Mia replied, "Yes, Mum! I turned into a cat, climbed trees and explored the world from a cat's
perspective, but I'm happy to be myself again."

From that day forward, Mia kept the necklace as a reminder of her extraordinary adventure. 35
She continued to explore the world around her, but this time, as a brave and curious girl.
Whenever she needed a reminder of her adventure, she would look at her cat-shaped
necklace and smile, knowing that magic could be found in the most unexpected places.
