TOPIC 1: COMMUNICATION

T: Hi Ánh. Long time no see. Nice to meet u too

A: Hello Thịnh. I’m glad to see u there. How it’s going?
T:Fine, thanks. How are things?
A: Pretty good
T: I have some questions t ask you, Ánh. Did u usually tell little white lies to protect people’s
feeeling?
A: Absolutely, of course. Actually, I had heard a truth that makes everyone upset. 5 years
ago, while my cousin was watching film, he had a headache. He was rushed into hospital
when he had taken a turn for the worst. The doctor diagnosed he had a melanom in cerebral
hemisphere and ỉt could spread to another parts of the body. I shocked when I heard this
announcement. However, I had to be happy in order to reassure him, to avoid his worry. Lie is
harmless but in this circumstance, a white lie would help him assured.
T: Oh, this is a sad annnoucement. I think it was right way in this situation.
A: Yeah, I think so.
T: When u were younger, did you tell your parents lies? Did you tell the truth later?
A: Hmm, I’m ashamed of telling lie to my parents. When i was 13, I had an English extra
class of Mr Ánh. He was a well-known English teacher in Ben Cat town. I had a chance to
study in his class. Before I participated in class, I had been tremulous because of his
grumpiness. I told to my dad that I had a headache to cut this class. I didn’t want to study
anymore. In this case, I haven’t told the truth to them.
T: Oh, we are the same. I used to tell my mom that i was ill skip class. However, the truth
was my laziness. I think that was a funny memory to remind when my family gets together.
A: That’s right
T: Do u usually say hello to topple you do not know on the street? Why?
A: Yes, sometimes. I’m an extrovert person and i want to show off my personality in front of
people, especially foreigners. When i see foreigners in the streeet, i wave hand and say “
Hello guys”. In my point of view, I wanna show off to foreigners that Vietnamese people are
hospitable, friendly. It’s also a traditional culture of Vietnam, it has a good impression to
travellers. It can lead a more satisfying life.
T: Me too. I usually say hi to strangers. I’m happy to do that. It implies friendliness and puts
us at ease. Last question for you, Ánh. Have u ever told someone that he or she cant’t cook
well? What did the person say?
A: Hmm I haven’t disparaged anyone. I just give someone some polite comments to promote
them better. I haven’t met my aunt for 6 years. Therefore, last summer vacation, I decided to
have a flight to Viet Tri city to visit her. She organised a small cozy party welcome me. She
cookes lots of dishes especially kebal rice noodles which is one of well-known dishes in Ha
Noi. I tried it. U know, dipping sauce was too pale for me. So, I told her with good attitude.
She just gave me a smile and put fish sauce in. After that, we went on to enjoy party.
T: Your story is so cute. I think in this case, we just say something that doesn’t make anyone
feel uncomfortable. Well, it's been nice talking to you.

TOPIC 3: CITY OR COUNTRY

T: Hi Ánh. Long time no see. Nice to meet u too
A: Hello Thịnh. I’m glad to see u there. How it’s going?
T:Fine, thanks. How are things?
A: Pretty good
T: Let’s talk about city and country [Link] u prefer to live in the city or country?
A: Even though the countryside life is enticing, I prefer to live in a large city simply for the
reasons. Now, I’m living in HCM city which is one of the most hustle and bustle city in
Vietnam. I’m an outgoing person so I like to meet with a variety of friends throughout the
week and enjoy different venues. I am a sucker for the convenience of big cities, like eating
out, latest equipment and nightlife, so I can’t really see myself living without them
permanently.
T: Oh, I love living in urban area too. I’m a big fan of shopping so living in downtown is
convenient. I just go to shopping centre in minutes. In terms of living in urban area, there are
2 sides. So, what are some advantages and disadvantages of living in the city?
A: Living in the city offers numerous advantages, including easy access to
a wide range of amenities and services, such as restaurants, shopping
centres, entertainment venues, and healthcare facilities. Cities are often
hubs of economic activity, providing ample job opportunities and career
prospects. Additionally, cities tend to have better transportation systems,
making it convenient to move around and reducing the need for personal
vehicles. However, urban living also comes with its fair share of
disadvantages. Cities can be crowded and noisy, leading to higher stress
levels for some residents. The cost of living is typically higher in cities,
with expensive housing and living expenses. Moreover, pollution and
traffic congestion can impact the quality of life.
T: What are some advantages and disadvantages of living in the country?
A: In terms of benefits, living in the countryside means escaping the city’s
hustle and bustle, with less noise and pollution. It’s a quieter, cleaner
environment. Being close to nature is another perk. You can enjoy beautiful landscapes,
wildlife, and the changing seasons more intimately. Furthermore, the cost of living tends to be
lower in the countryside. Things like rent, groceries, and utilities are usually cheaper. On the
other hand, there are somd drawbacks. Rural areas may have fewer healthcare facilities and
specialists, which can be a concern for individuals with complex medical needs. Otherwise,
finding employment opportunities in rural areas can be challenging, especially in specialized
or high-paying fields, which may necessitate long commutes or remote work.
T: That’s right. Countryside areas may lack the amenities, entertainment options, and cultural
activities that cities offer. Access to healthcare, schools, and shopping centers may also be
limited. However, people are still choosing to live in the country. Despite living in the
countryside, they work in the city. What do you think about it?
A: In my opinion, job oppportunity is the main reason that make people work in the city even
though they live in countryside. Because of the modernization, city is developing. In order to
catch up the development over the world, job opportunities offered more and more in many
different fields. People have chances to get high-paying jobs. Therefore, people's standard of
living is higher.
T: I totally agree with your opinon. Well, it's been nice talking to you
