Scriptures taken from the King James Version (KJV)

Amazingly, this book was wri en within 24 hours. While I was ministering about
receiving the Holy Spirit, I promised my audience that I will give guideline on how to
ask for the Holy Spirit from God but while I was about to send the ten lines of
guideline, I observe that I will face more ques ons from people because of many
wicked decei ul beliefs propagated by wicked and carnally minded preachers.

Then I sat down in front of my laptop to give a detailed narra on of the issue of
receiving the Holy Spirit.

This is not really a Bible Study but a guideline for if it is a Bible Study, it will be far more
detailed than this.

I do hope this mini–book will help you in your desire to know God more personally and
to know how you can walk with Him.

Please check the last page to know how you can get in touch with me in case you need
further clarifica ons or ques ons.

1. FIRST THING FIRST
One thing you must know is that God has already given His Spirit and it is up to you to
receive it. Like salva on, the Holy Spirit has been there ever since the day of Pentecost.
You will understand this from many perspec ves.

1.1: Who is the Holy Spirit

Note that the Holy Spirit is not a what but who! This is the first error towards receiving
Him. In spite of what many preachers said about the Holy Spirit, the fact remains that
the word of Jesus Christ supersede the word of man. In the book of John 16:7,13 the
Bible says,
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not
away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
v13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he
shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will
shew you things to come.

It is interes ng to note that here and every places Jesus Chris refers to the Holy Spirit,
the word used is ‘He’, ‘Him’, or ‘Himself’. Therefore, Holy Spirit has already been sent
just like when Jesus Christ came to the world and was opera onal for a period of me
for a purpose of salva on. The offer has been given. Yours is to receive it!

1.2: Holy Spirit defined

The word translated ‘Spirit’ is from the Greek word, “pneuma” which means “a current
of air, that is, breath or a breeze”. One ques on need an answer though. Why did Jesus
Christ referred to Holy Spirit as ‘He’ when the He (the Holy Spirit) is a current of air, a
breath or breeze? Simple! That Jesus Christ needed to die for mankind, the Bible states
that He le His Spirit-body in heaven and came in the form of humans. This is
important and in line with the great work He came to do on earth
Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
v6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
v7 But made himself of no reputa on, and took upon him the form of a servant, and
was made in the likeness of men:
v8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient
unto death, even the death of the cross.

However, the case of Holy Spirit is different, He maintain His form, The reason is that
because when we accept salva on, we are then expected to grow in worship which is
to the invisible God. There is no need for outward religion but one in the spirit and in
truth.
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship
5
the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
v24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Therefore, because the work of the Holy Spirit starts a er the advent of Jesus Christ,
God must maintain His spirit-form so as to teach us the proper way of worship.

1.3: Evidence of Receiving the Holy Spirit

Let me quickly men on two events a er the Pentecost and don’t forget the point I am
making that the Holy Spirit arrived on the day of Pentecost and the only thing we need
to do is to receive His offer.

About nine years a er the Pentecost, news filtered to Jerusalem from Samaria that
some people had received the word of God and Peter and John, who were fairly the
most experienced of Jesus’ disciples were sent to inves gate the ma er. Please note
what the Bible says in verse 15.
Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
v15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the
Holy Ghost

Also, about twenty years a er the Pentecost, Apostle Paul in his journey traveled to a
town called Ephesus and encountered some Chris ans. No ce the ques on he asked
them.
Acts 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed
through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
v2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said
unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

Looking at all these evidences, it remains a fact that the Holy Spirit has already been
sent, your part is to receive Him into your life.

6
STEP-BY-STEP TO RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

Step One: Working out your Salva on

Salva on should be taken lightly and it is important not to miss anything in this sec on.

S1.1: Confirm your Salva on

Immediately a er the once-in-a-life me Pentecostal incident, some people who saw
the phenomenal asked the apostles what they too can do to have the Holy Spirit.
Please no ce the response:
Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto
Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
v38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be bap zed every one of you in the name
of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gi of the Holy Ghost.

S1.2: First steps to Salva on – Repent!

Looking closely the above passages, that is, the response of Apostle Peter, the first is
Repent!
What does it mean to repent?
The word, ‘repent’ is translated from the Greek word, “metanoeo” which means “to
have a change of heart and mind”. This is the most powerful event that can happen in a
mortal’s life. There is a difference between a changed heart and a changed mind.

For you to have a change of heart, you must be capable of reconsidering your state of
heart in rela on of your habits and character. You must also be able to understand the
meaning of what is right and what is wrong and admit your wrongdoings. Which
means, you must be sorry for your past sins and not find excuse for it. For example, a
drunk will give an excuse that alcohol allow him to forget his sorrow and will not see
anything wrong in staying long in drunkenness but when he reconsider and relent in
the act, that is repentance. The keyword is ‘reconsider and relent’.

To have a change of mind, you must allow the Scriptures to convict your mind set which
means, understanding what give you joy before now. Before repentance, one may
derive joy from sinful acts but at repentance, the mind set is changed and the word of
God convict sin in the heart. What once gave the heart joy now become disgus ng to
the same heart.

S1.3: Second steps to Salva on – Bap ze!

Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of bap sms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrec on of
the dead, and of eternal judgment.

7
What exactly is bap sm? We have seen different types of bap sm as ordained by
Churches and ironically, many new genera on Pentecostal churches have totally
removed bap sm as part of their doctrine. Most of them when asked replied that it is
no longer prac cable. Well, let me inform you that there is nothing like “not
prac cable” with God. The old- me religion is s ll as relevant today as the day it first
ordained.

Bap sm is an integral part of salva on and it is administered by immersion. In fact, that

is the very meaning of bap sm. The word translated ‘bap ze’ is a Greek word,
“bap zo” which means “to immerse or submerge”. Therefore, if your type of bap sm is
when water was sprinkled on your face, you have not been bap zed. The bap sm
required of God is total immersion (under water).

This is an external evidence to show the world that you have switch your allegiance
from sin and Satan to righteousness and Jesus Christ.

Step Two: Laying on of hands

Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of bap sms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrec on of
the dead, and of eternal judgment.
I will make this step as simple as possible so that you will not need the help of anyone.
This, I do in order to eliminate demonic power from invading your life through satanic
agents who pose as the agents of light. When you follow the doctrine of bap sms as
stated in the Scriptures, you will also need to obey the doctrine of laying on of hands.

S2.1: What is Laying on of hands?

It’s a pity that most Chris ans are taking for granted the implica ons of hand laying. To
understand how powerful this ma er is, let’s define the keyword of this Chris an rite.
The word translated, ‘laying’ is from the Greek word, “epithesis” which means, “an
imposi on”. When someone lay his/her hands on you, you will experience a transfer of
power from the person laying hands to the person receiving. It is a very powerful
religious experience and must not be taken lightly.

S2.2: The danger of Laying on of hands

Because of the perilous mes we live, you must be very careful and be sure of who lay
hands on you. The reason is that because if the person that lay hands on you is hiding a
par cular sin in his/her life, you will also receive it. I remember some years ago, a
couple was discussing with me about the adulterous life of the husband and a er a very
long conversa on with them, we discovered that the man was faithful un l their pastor
laid hands on him during one of their Holy Spirit programs. What if the person laying

8
hands on you is under the influence of evil spirit? It also means that your life and
ministry will be sold to the kingdom of darkness.

S2.3: The “Seeking the face of God” Op on.

This is the reason why I will always encourage all Chris ans to always use the second
op on of receiving the Holy Spirit which is seeking the face of God. I can agree with
anyone that the easiest method of receiving the Holy Spirit is by laying on of hands but
because of the precarious situa on we all find ourselves in the body of Christ, I prefer
to encourage you to personally seek the face of God.

The ques on is, How many so-called servants of God today truly have the Spirit of
God? Most people in the pastoral work are fake, decei ul, worldly-minded, ignorant of
God’s word, diabolical and living a double life. Note that there is no longer a monopoly
of God’s power. We can all have access to the throne of God as long as we did not
approach Him with unbelief. Yes! Unbelief. A sinner can even approach Him with
sincerity of heart. What you need is your faith.

S2.4: Lest I forget about the Laying on of Hands.

There is one thing though. If you are sure of the salva on of your pastor. If you have a
pastor that have a clear knowledge of the word of God. If you have a pastor that has
proven to you consistently (mark the word consistently) his faithfulness. Then, you are
on a safer side to seek for the laying on of hands from him. This will help you a lot and
put you on a good stead.

Step Three: The Holy Spirit Experience

I have heard many preachers preach and Bible teachers teach that the moment you
receive the Holy Spirit, you must speak in tongues. But it is a false statement. It is
another satanic way of making people go to hell fire because of the deceit involved.

S[Link] I once fell into this deceit!

I remember when I was a very young. I was a Choir Director of my Church and it was
taught and accepted their teaching that unless you speak in tongues, you did not have
the Holy Spirit. Any me the worship service was in progress, everybody are saying
things that make me wonder if the Holy Spirit is a sensible spirit and everyone were
behaving as if the Holy Spirit is disorderly.

But my greater concern was that was the only person among the youths in the church
that did not have the Holy Spirit because I cannot speak in tongue. I wondered if this
Holy Spirit they are talking about is real and true. The reason was that the people that

9
the people that are speaking insensible words are not be er than me morally. In fact, I
was far be er than most of them.

One day, I walked to my pastor to inform her of my concerns and observa on but what
I was told was that Chris ans are all like cutlasses and hoes in the hands of a farmer
and a er God has finished using us, we are dumped somewhere un l God have a need
to use us again. This explana on make no sense to me! I strongly believe that we are
all more than God’s crea on! We are His children! By the way, what kind of father use
and dump his children?

However, this speaking in tongues issue con nued and I was forced to joined the
majority. When it now got to an embarrassing point, I eventually find solu on. What
did I do? See! There is a Jesus’ calendar in my house and the inscrip on on the picture
reads: “Le dieu misericordieux”. I don’t know what it really meant then but I later knew
that it was a French word which means “The Merciful God”. As the Holy Spirit program
started in our church, I saw people as usual behaving like someone possessed, some
falling like drunkards and behaving in disorderly manner. As I looked on wondering, my
pastor ran to me, shaking me while holding my shoulders and shou ng, “received,
received”. To put a stop to this embarrassing situa on, I remembered the calendar in
my house and its inscrip on, then suddenly, I started shou ng the word, Le dieu
misericordieux con nuously and vigorously. The funny side of the story was that the
more I shook the more my pastor shouted on me and the more I repeated “Le dieu
misericordieux” the more she also speak another funny words. What a sad scene from
heavens point of view! See, if not for God’s grace, I would have perished. The Lord
spoke to me years later that if not for the words I was saying that day (Remember, Le
dieu misericordieux means ‘The Merciful God”), my name would have been removed
from the book of life and that is one of the reason why I strongly believe that there is
nothing the mercy of God cannot do!

So, don’t worry if you did not speak in tongues when you receive the Holy Spirit. It is
human lies that it is mandatory. They will say it as if they are telling the truth that the
evidence of receiving is speaking in tongues. But note that speaking in tongues is one
of the nine gi s of the Holy Spirit.... not the only gi !

S3.2: Biblical evidence

If the teaching that speaking in tongues is the sign of receiving the Holy Spirit, then, it
is not Holy Spirit. The reason why we did not know the name of Holy Spirit is because
He is a Spirit and the reason why He will manifest differently with different people is
because He is a Spirit. So, in order to bring my argument to conclusion, let’s see some
Bible passages about people who received the Holy Spirit and the experience that

10
followed.
*Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them u erance – These people started speaking in tongues
the moment they received the Holy Spirit

*Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were
assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the
word of God with boldness – These people did not speak in tongues the moment they
received the Holy Spirit. Instead, they started speaking the word of God

*Acts 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost –
When these people received the Holy Spirit, nothing happened and it does not mean
that they did not have the Holy Spirit.

*Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and pu ng his
hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the
way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled
with the Holy Ghost – It took Paul some me later before he started speaking in
tongues as he did not speak in tongues when he received the Holy Spirit.

There are several other instances recorded in the Bible during the me of the early
church that the manifesta on of the Holy Spirit is in different forms. The experience is
different from one person to the other and cannot be the same. The gi s of the Holy
Spirit also varies and according to how the Spirit distributes.

S3.3: An important fact about speaking in tongues

Never believe the lies that speaking in tongues is an heavenly language or a word that
Satan and his demons did not understand. If there is something like that, Jesus Christ
would have banish Satan with ‘heavenly’ words when he came to tempt Him. It is a
wicked lies from the mouth of wicked people. There is no biblical passage to support
the funny assump ons. Please find me to read the book of Acts 2:1-13 very well and
place emphasis on verses 4-6. Please read it from every versions of the Bible you can
lay your hands on and you will see clearly that speaking in tongues means speaking in a
language not acquired by natural means. In fact, the word ‘tongues’ in verse 4 of Acts
chapter two is translated from the Greek word, “glossa”, means, “a language not
naturally acquired”. Don’t forget! Speaking in tongues is when you are under the
powerful breath of the Holy Spirit and you speak in a language of another people
without ever learning it before hand! Simple and straight-forward! If those people you
are speaking their language are around, they will clearly understand everything you are
saying.
11
S3.4: The limita ons of speaking in tongues
It will also interest you to know what Paul teaches about speaking in tongues. I believe
God knew that His children will want to bastardize the manifesta on of the Holy Spirit
and have pleasure in deceiving people and distor ng the truth, hence, the extensive
teaching of Paul on speaking in tongues.

a). Speaking of tongues is just a sign to unbelievers

1Cor 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them
that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them
which believe.

If truly speaking in tongues is a sign to unbelievers, why then do we hear different

meaningless, incoherent words filling various church auditoriums? To whom are we
exhibi ng these decei ul scenes to? Why can’t our pastors read their Bibles before
they start was ng the me of their members? The truth is that it is easy to lie through
speaking in tongues but it is just not easy to lie with prophecies, which is needed
among believers in the Church.

b). Speaking in tongues is not encouraged in the worship service

Please note that I am not condemning the usage of speaking in tongues but I do
encourage that those who desire it should seek for it. Those who also genuinely have
the gi of speaking in tongues should use it well but there is on thing you need to
know about it’s usage.

The Bible teaches that when the worship service is in progress, no one should speak in
tongues unless the person have a secondary gi of interpre ng what he or she is
saying. Paul argue that what benefit is there when someone is speaking in a language
no one understand?
1Cor 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for
greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret,
that the church may receive edifying.
v6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you,
except I shall speak to you either by revela on, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or
by doctrine?
v9 So likewise ye, except ye u er by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall
it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
v11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh
a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
v19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my
voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
12
c). A godly warning!
1Cor 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by
three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
v28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak
to himself, and to God.

Comparing the above passages with what is happening in today’s churches, one
wonder the type of Bible they are reading. The Bible state clearly that if there is no one
in the church that have the gi of interpre ng the language by the person speaking in
tongues, let whoever want to speak in tongues keep silent! Our God is a God of order
and He will never be in the midst of disorderly people.

Step Four: Fast!

It is mandatory that you should get yourself ready for this life me experience. You can
do this by fas ng on the day set aside. It will not only keep you in perspec ve of what
your mission is, it will also give no ce to your carnal man that things are not going to
be as it’s used to be.

Another important factor is the environment. You should get yourself away from
people, noise or distrac ons. Put your phones in silence so as to give you the
opportunity of remaining focus on the mission at hand.

Lastly, don’t forget to have your Bible and wri ng materials handy. You will surely need
them. (Remember, no Novel, TV, Radio, Phone, Laptop, Commentary or Magazine).

Step Five: Worship! Worship!! Worship!!!

Immerse yourself in worship. Go on and on un l you are unable to feel your pains and
challenges. It is a good step to walking into the throne of God

Step Six: Forgive me Oh Lord!

One important point you should know when you are asking for forgiveness is that you
must confess all your sins to God before you can be forgiven.
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Speak audibly and be sincere. One can lie to others but it is a disaster for one to lie to
oneself! Be sincere about your confessions. Don’t shi blame or give excuses and be
ready in your heart to change your ways. (use the “Prayers of Forgiveness” on the next
page).

Step Seven: Clean and Holy! PRAYER OF FORGIVENESS
