A ROAD ACCIDENT

There was a road accident on 31 January 2022 when an over-speeding lorry
hit a Maruti car at Mathura Road at about 10.PM.
The lorry driver was driving at a high speed and lost control over the vehicle
trying to overtake a bus. In a bid to save the collision with the bus he hit the
Maruti car in which five persons were travelling. Two people died on the spot
and three have been admitted in Safdarjung hospital with serious injuries.
The driver too was injured and bleeding profusely.
The accident caused a major traffic jam as the lorry driver blocked the road
for almost an hour. One person from the crowd pulled out the driver from
the car while another picked up the three persons on the road who were
thrown out because of the sudden brake. An ambulance was called and
police was also informed by a few people in the crowd. An eye witness
remarked, ‘What a dreadful sight it was!’
The lorry driver has been arrested and a case of rash driving and causing
death due to negligence has been registered against him. The minister for
transport has promised to pay some amount as compensation to those who
died and injured.

FESTIVAL OF SHAKESPEARE’S PLAYS

A festival of Shakespeare’s Plays was organized by Globe Theatre drama
group from 25 January 2022 to 31 January2022 from 4 PM to 7 PM. in the
auditorium of Utkal University with great pomp and show.
It was inaugurated by Mr. Biswanath Kyal, the cultural secretary of Odisha
government on 25 January 2022 at 4 PM. The lighting of the lamp and
welcome song was followed by a speech by the Chief Guest. He told that he
is an avid reader and had read a few plays of Shakespeare which have helped
him grow as a person. Plays like The Merchant of Venice, Romeo and Juliet
and Julius Ceasar were enacted. Julius Caesar was the most appreciated
play . A few sonnets were also recited along with a few speeches of famous
characters of Shakespeare’s plays.
Around 150-200 people were present with age groups between 25-50 years
each day. A visitor, Ramesh, said, “It’s a wonderful experience to see artists
perform so splendidly”. “I want to thank the audience for taking out time to
watch the plays,” quoted the head of the organisers.
The overall response was overwhelming. The crowd enjoyed the plays and
relived their school and college days. The organizers assured the people to
organize such literary festivals of novels, poetry etc.
