Nature of the lesson: VOCABULARY

Title of the lesson: COLOURS

Teacher: OUOBA Yénipoundi Francis

Aim: To familiarize pupils with some colours in order to help them describe some common
objects

Objectives: by the end of the lesson pupils of form I (2) will be able to:

1- Name and pronounce correctly the selected colours

2 – write correctly the names of the selected colours

3 - Build meaningful sentences with the selected colours

Prerequisites:

The simple present of “to be and to have”, classroom objects, indefinite articles,
demonstrative adjectives, are already been taught in class.

Anticipated problems:

Some pupils may have difficulties to pronounce and write correctly the names of some
colours.
Anticipated Solutions: I will lay emphasis on the pronunciation and the spelling of these
colours.

Teaching materials: Board- Chalk- Duster- Bucket of water-realia

Unfolding of the lesson

Warm up (3 minutes)
Step 1: Greeting and date writing. (1 minute)

The teacher greets the pupils, and then he writes the date on the board.

Step 2: Song: ‘Are you sleeping?’. (1 minute)

Step 3: Announcement of the lesson (1 minute).

Teacher: today we are going to study a vocabulary lesson entitled colours.

STAGE I: PRESENTATION (10 minutes)

Step 1: Content of the lesson

 Here is the procedure for the lesson presentation


1- The teacher will take one realia, show it to the pupils and pronounce its name three
times;
2- He will invite the pupils to pronounce chorally;
3- He will invite each row to pronounce once;
4- He will ask individually some pupils to pronounce once;
5- The teacher will write the name of the selected colour on the board followed by an
illustrative sentence.

NB: The selected colours are: White- Black- Blue- Green- Red- and Yellow

1.White

Example: My schoolbag is white.

2.Black

Example: The Board is black.

3.Blue
Example: I have a blue pen

4.Green

Example: The door is green.

5.Red

Example: The teacher corrects the exercise with a red pen.

6.Yellow

Example: The window of our house is yellow.

II- PRACTICE (16 minutes)

Step1:Oral activity (6minutes)

Activity 1: teacher- pupils interaction

Instruction: I will show some objects to the class and ask pupils to describe their colours.

Example: Teacher: What colour is this?


Pupils: This is black / it is black

Activity 2: pupils- pupils interaction

Instruction: The teacher will choose first, one pupil to come in front of his classmates
and ask questions as he was doing. Another pupil will come to continue with what the
previous was doing.

Step2: Written Activity (10 minutes)

Instruction: Reorder the following words to write correctly the colour name. (4 minutes)
 The teacher will erase the name of the selected colours on the board during this
activity. He will rewrite them after the correction of the activity.

Example: e- r-d= Red

1. t- e- i- w -h
2. b- c- l- k -a
3. u- e- b- l
4. o- w- l- e- l -y
5. e-g-r-n-e
 At the end of the first part of this activity, the teacher asks the pupils to exchange
their exercise copybooks with their neighbors for the correction.

 Correction of the written execise (4 minutes)

 The pupils will come and correct the activity on the board and the teacher will
praise good answers with expressions such as: ‘very good’, ‘excellent’, and
‘perfect’. He also encourages those who do not succeed to find the right answer.

Evaluation:(Peer evaluation) and assessment. (2 minutes)


Teacher: How many pupils got 5 good answers over 5? .....

How many pupils got 4 good answers over 5? .....

How many pupils got 3 good answers over 5? .....

Teacher: well. Take the correction in your exercise copybooks

III- PRODUCTION (25 MINUTES)


Step1: Pair work (10minutes)
Instruction: with your neighbour of the same table, build a meaningful sentence
with each of the following name of colours: red, blue, yellow, white,
green.
Step2: Feedback of the pair works (6minutes)
 possible sentences:
- Your pen is red.
- My ruler is blue.
- I have a yellow schoolbag.
- The chalk is white.
- The board is green.

Step 3: Follow-up activity (2minutes)

Instruction:
Build 4 meaningful sentences with your favorite colours.

Step 4: Note taking and administrative duties (6minutes)


The teacher invites the pupils to copy the lesson in their copybooks while he is filling the
record book and check the attendances.

 Closing (1minute)
Teacher: Today’s lesson is ended. Thank you for your participation. Don’t forget to
revise the lesson and do the homework. Good bye class!
Pupils: Good bye sir!
